£12,059.34 – £12,911.63 (dependant on experience and qualifications) (Grade 17-19)
About the Role
The Study Skills Officer plays a pivotal role in enhancing students' independent learning capabilities by designing, delivering, and supporting bespoke intervention strategies. Reporting to the Curriculum Administration Support Manager, you will collaborate across multiple departments to ensure students receive tailored study skills development, from foundational literacy to advanced higher education preparation (e.g., research, essay writing and critical analysis).
Key Responsibilities

Workshop/Intervention Development & Delivery
- Create and deliver targeted workshops on study skills (e.g., time management, note-taking, assignment structuring).
- Provide 1:1 and small-group interventions for students requiring extra support.
- Adapt sessions to individual needs, ensuring accessibility, inclusivity, and alignment with curriculum requirements.

Collaborative Support
- Work cross-departmentally with tutorial/training teams to identify and work with students at risk of underachievement.
- Incorporate external academic experts, guest speakers, or industry professionals to strengthen workshop content and delivery quality.

Service Promotion & Evaluation
- Actively promote the study skills suite to students, staff, and parents via communications (emails, posters, promotions).
- Maintain up-to-date resources (handouts, digital materials) and ensure they are easily accessible campus-wide.
- Track and review impact/outcomes against departmental/college goals, using detailed evaluation methods (feedback, assessments).

- Admin & Engagement
- Assist with behaviour management (e.g., supporting good practice, identifying and addressing barriers to participation).
- Contribute to community-building initiatives within campus (e.g. team events, peer mentoring).
- Support curriculum teams with administrative tasks where required.
- Act as a flexible resource during key college events, exams, and assessment periods.
Requirements
Essential Skills & Experience
- A strong understanding of study skills pedagogy (e.g., literacy, learning methods, academic writing).
- Demonstrated ability to design, deliver & evaluate workshops for varied year groups.
- Track record of coaching/student support (collaborating with Safeguarding & pastoral teams).
- Adept at managing learner behaviour with sensitivity, drawing on effective communication techniques.
- Comfortable adapting outreach to both individual and group contexts.
- Experience managing drop-in and appointment systems to track student engagement.
- Familiarity with or willingness to learn Student Information Management Systems (SIMS compatible).
- Basic office Ikea/Microsoft proficiency (Excel and Outlook).
Qualifications
- Level 4+ qualification in education, training, coaching or a related field – desirable but not mandatory if equivalent experience exists.
- Being awarded Teacher Training status or in pursuit of qualifications welcome but not compulsory.
Alternatively, SMS analysis of prior learning (AP) meets entrance qualification needs if otherwise actively engaged.
