About the Role

At Blackwell Earthmoving Limited, part of Hargreaves Services Plc, our focus is on precision and expertise in large-scale bulk earthworks, soil stabilisation, and land restoration.

We partner with nationally significant projects such as HS2, Sizewell C, and the Lower Thames Crossing. Our work blends engineering excellence with environmental responsibility, creating sustainable foundations for future growth across highways, rail networks, renewable energy developments, and beyond.

As Sub Agent, your role is to lead the delivery of a major earthworks section within the HS2 programme. You’ll manage and develop a high-performing engineering team, providing leadership, safety, quality direction, and technical guidance throughout all project stages.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Lead and mentor the engineering team, delivering clear direction, technical expertise, and support for safe, efficient, and high-quality outputs.
  • Develop and manage detailed mass-haul and seasonal work plans, ensuring precise forecasting, resource allocation, and alignment with programme milestones.
  • Oversee constructability reviews, sequencing strategies, and temporary works planning, while identifying risks and implementing mitigation measures to safeguard progress and safety.
  • Collaborate with Commercial and Planning teams, tracking costs, schedules, and productivity to meet financial and programme targets.
  • Provide technical expertise and growth opportunities for junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.

What We’re Looking For

  • Industry experience in civil engineering or construction management, with a focus on large-scale infrastructure earthworks projects.
  • Proven leadership ability, with the capacity to manage, develop, and inspire engineering teams. -a grasp of health, safety, and quality standards, ensuring full compliance across all site operations.
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving skills, tailored for fast-paced environments.
  • Effective communication and stakeholder management skills, with experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams.
  • Relevant qualifications—a Civil Engineering degree is essential, and ICE professional accreditation is desirable.
