Sub Agent – Civil Engineering (Non-Rail Infrastructure)

The Opportunity
Due to continued growth, we are looking to recruit a Sub Agent to support the delivery of a diverse portfolio of non-rail civil engineering projects across Scotland.
Working as part of an established team, you will support the management and delivery of projects across a varied client base, playing a key role in ensuring contracts are delivered safely, on time, and within budget.
Current & Upcoming Schemes
- Substation civils and energy infrastructure works
- Brigade and footbridge construction / replacement
- Pipeline refurbishment projects
- Earthworks, roads and general civils packages
Business Unit
You will be part of a busy, multi-disciplinary civil engineering team delivering works across:
- Power & energy infrastructure
- Structures and bridges
- Highways and general civils
- Utilities and pipeline projects
The team operates across a strong portfolio of frameworks and standalone projects for clients including: SPEN, SSE, DRAX, Network Rail, and Local Authorities.
The Role
As Sub Agent, you will support the Project Manager and Site Agents in the planning, coordination, and delivery of civil engineering projects, guaranteeing all contractual and operational requirements are met.

Key Responsibilities
- Ensuring contracts are delivered in line with:
- Relevant legislation
- Contract terms and conditions
- Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality plans
- Work Package Plans and Task Briefings
- Supporting delivery within programme and budget
- Monitoring contract progress and performance against targets
- Working closely with site teams and commercial teams to manage costs
- Identifying, managing and recording changes to scope
- Producing regular reports on progress for senior management
- Supporting coordination of site activities and subcontractors
- Maintaining strong communication with internal teams and stakeholders
About You
You will be an experienced civil engineering professional, ideally stepping up from Senior Engineer level or already operating as a Sub Agent within infrastructure projects.
Essential Requirements
✅ Experience as a Senior Engineer or Sub Agent within civil engineering ✅ Strong background in general civils, infrastructure, or structural works ✅ Proven experience working on multi-disciplinary projects ✅ Strong organisational, communication and coordination skills ✅ Good understanding of commercial and contract management principles
Qualifications
✔ HNC / HND / Degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent) ✔ SMSTS ✔ CSCS
Desirable Qualifications/Experience
👉 Experience within power or energy sectors (SPEN, SSE, DRAX, etc.) 👉 Temporary Works Coordinator (TWC) 👉 IOSH 👉 Broader infrastructure or rail experience (beneficial for wider project exposure)
