Sub-Contraction Manager
Menzies Distribution Solutions are looking for an experienced Sub-Contraction Manager to join our Planning Centre in Wakefield. The job holder will manage all aspects of MDS Sub-Contraction. Relationships with partners and Haulage Hub. Will also be required to consistently challenge the status quo to ensure that our subcontractor activity supports our overall Transport Optimisation goals. Strives to build relationships maximizing profitability at every opportunity.
The Details:
- Salary: £50,000
- Shift Pattern: Monday - Friday
- Working Hours: Between 07:00-09:00 - 16:00-18:00
- Location: Wakefield Planning Centre / Hybrid
Monthly Pay
Key Duties and Accountabilities (will include but not be limited to)
- Tactical relationship management of Haulage Hub and existing subcontractors
- Undertake periodic audits
- Implement and maintain a rate-card approach for subcontractors by depot
- Point of contact for subcontractor disputes / issues
- Manage requirements with HaulageHub for new subcontractors.
- Manage subcontractor reporting regime, development and introduction of MDS/ HH standard KPI's
- Lead on subcontractor related projects
- Undertake other activities as required related to overall Transport Optimization goals, and wider business objectives as required
Key Experience and Qualifications:
- An experienced transport professional
- Experience of using digital transport solutions such as HaulageHub.
- Demonstrable experience in negotiating with subcontractors
- Must have a thorough grasp of transport costs, and good all-round financial acumen
- Operationally focused, but with the ability to identify opportunities and challenge convention
- Must be comfortable with data manipulation to produce meaningful reports / analysis with an eye for detail
- CPC preferred but not essential.

Technical skills and behavioral competencies:
- Outstanding people skills - ability to achieve results without direct line management authority
- Capable of having challenging conversations, and good all round communication skills
- Engaging personal style, but with the tenacity to achieve the goal
- Commercial negotiation skills
- Good IT skills (Microsoft Office), Excel skills essential
- Self-starter - able to plan own activity and achieve results without close supervision
- Financially competent - comfortable in dealing with numbers, and must have an inherent understanding of transport costs
- Lateral thinker
- Works well under pressure
- Ability to prioritise
- Able to develop relationships with others (both internal and external)
