Subject Matter Expert – Consumer Duty
Location: London

Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Consumer Duty Subject Matter Expert to lead the continued embedding, monitoring and enhancement of Consumer Duty across a leading wealth management business. You will act as the central authority on FCA Consumer Duty and product governance requirements, translating regulation into practical commercial frameworks. Working closely with Product, Investment Management, Distribution, Risk and Compliance teams, you will ensure the business consistently delivers, measures and evidences good outcomes for retail clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the primary SME for FCA Consumer Duty, PRIN 2A, PROD and relevant MiFID II requirements.
- Provide clear, authoritative guidance to senior leadership, governance committees and frontline teams.
- Embed and continuously improve frameworks across the four Consumer Duty outcomes:
- Products and Services
- Price and Value
- Consumer Understanding
- Consumer Support
- Monitor FCA publications, thematic reviews and emerging regulatory expectations.
- Conduct gap analyses and recommend improvements to policies, controls and governance arrangements.
- Lead and review Fair Value Assessments for discretionary investment management, advisory and wealth-planning services.
- Assess complex charging structures, including management, platform and underlying investment fees.
- Oversee the definition and periodic review of target markets, distribution strategies and product governance arrangements.
- Ensure appropriate oversight of co-manufacturer and distributor relationships, including accountability and data-sharing requirements.
- Develop and enhance Consumer Duty MI dashboards that measure actual client outcomes.
- Design and perform outcome-testing activities across client communications and customer-support journeys.
- Ensure vulnerable-customer needs are appropriately identified, supported and monitored.
- Produce evidence-based reports and assurance papers for Board and Executive Risk Committees.
- Deliver practical Consumer Duty training to Investment Managers, Financial Planners and operational teams.
- Promote a client-focused culture based on good faith, avoidance of foreseeable harm and effective customer support.

Essential Experience
- At least 7–10 years’ experience within Risk, Compliance, Conduct or Product Governance.
- Recent experience within an FCA-regulated wealth manager, DFM, private bank or investment business.
- Expert knowledge of Consumer Duty, PRIN 2A, PROD and relevant MiFID II requirements.
- Demonstrable experience designing, completing and validating Fair Value Assessments.
- Strong experience defining and reviewing target markets for complex wealth or investment products.
- Practical understanding of wealth-management fee structures, platforms, investment products and distribution models.
- Experience developing Consumer Duty MI, performing outcome testing and producing board-level reporting.
- Strong stakeholder-management skills, with the confidence to challenge senior and front-office stakeholders constructively.
- Ability to translate complex regulatory requirements into clear, commercially practical actions.

Desirable Experience
- Experience supporting discretionary investment management, financial advice or bespoke wealth-planning services.
- Knowledge of vulnerable-customer frameworks and communication testing.
- Previous responsibility for delivering regulatory training.
- Relevant professional qualification from the CISI, ICA or CII.
- Degree or equivalent professional experience.
