Senior Associate / Subsidy Control and Procurement Specialist – Energy & Public Sector

About the Role

Bevan Brittan is expanding its subsidy control, competition, and procurement team. We are looking for driven individuals who collaborate effectively and are eager to develop their career within this dynamic field.

We are a team of specialists in subsidy control and public procurement, recognised for delivering cutting-edge solutions. The primary responsibility involves advising on subsidy control and procurement law, while reviewing and drafting grant agreements for a diverse range of public clients—including local authorities and central government bodies.

Your role will entail working across multiple sectors, such as:

  • Housing, construction, and regeneration
  • Outsourcing and public infrastructure
  • Education, research, and leisure services
  • Health and energy sector projects

A significant focus will be on energy frameworks, including:

  • Energy from Waste & Waste Projects (collaborating with ERM lawyers)
  • Heat Networks and District Energy
  • Solar PV & Battery Storage
  • City-wide decarbonisation initiatives
  • Electric Vehicle (EV) Infrastructure
  • Strategic energy advisory work for government bodies

Key Responsibilities

  • Advising clients on subsidy control, procurement law, and State aid compliance
  • Drafting and reviewing grant funding agreements
  • Working across varied public sector projects, with a strong focus on energy-related initiatives
  • Collaborating with ERM energy lawyers
  • Occasionally contributing to competition law matters (optional focus)
  • Ensuring innovative, client-centric solutions are delivered

Ideal Candidate

We seek:

  • 5+ years of PQE experience, ideally in:
    • Subsidy control law
    • State aid compliance
    • Public procurement law
    • Grant funding agreement drafting
  • Experience in public sector clients and a range of industries
  • Optional but beneficial: Competition law knowledge
  • Awareness of public & administrative law
  • Creative problem-solving with a results-driven approach
  • High energy, strong work ethic, and commitment to delivering value
  • Adaptability and eagerness to learn
  • Team player with excellent time management skills
