Substation Protection & Control Designer (Drawing Office)
Location: Cambuslang/ Hybrid Working
Salary: From £45,400 + Excellent Benefits

ScottishPower’s Drawing Office is expanding to support increasing business demands, and we are looking for an experienced Substation Protection & Control Designer to join our growing team. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the delivery of critical Transmission Network projects operating at 132kV and above, producing high-quality Protection & Control design drawings that support the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the electricity network.
Reporting to the Discipline Lead, you will play a key role in the development and delivery of accurate, compliant, and technically robust engineering drawings that meet project, safety, and regulatory requirements.
What You'll Be Doing
You will utilise your experience in the production of Protection & Control design drawings, including:
- Single Line Diagrams
- General Arrangement Drawings
- Circuit Diagrams
- Wiring Diagrams
- Cable Schedules
Ensuring all deliverables meet the required technical, quality, and project standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Developing feasibility and detailed design drawings for complex transmission and distribution projects.
- Producing accurate engineering drawings from technical information, specifications, and project requirements.
- Supporting compliance with health, safety, quality, and environmental requirements across project deliverables.
- Managing assigned workloads to ensure efficient delivery of work to agreed timescales.
- Applying and promoting drawing standards, procedures, and industry best practices.
- Ensuring work complies with externally audited quality management systems and supporting ongoing compliance activities.
- Assisting with the maintenance, accuracy, and development of Drawing Office databases.
- Supporting auditable design and design change control processes in line with quality assurance requirements.
- Reviewing and assessing engineering drawings as part of approval, verification, and quality assurance processes.
- Providing technical guidance, support, and knowledge sharing across the wider team.
- Delivering high-quality outputs within agreed timescales to achieve excellent client satisfaction.
- Contributing to the continuous improvement of Drawing Office procedures, documentation, and working practices.
- Maintaining effective communication with key stakeholders regarding project progress, priorities, and any issues affecting delivery.
What We're Looking For
The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of engineering drawing production, drawing standards, quality procedures, and design office best practices. You will be comfortable working collaboratively within multidisciplinary project teams and have a proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.

You should have experience using industry-standard design software, including:
- AutoCAD Vault
- Autodesk Forma
- ProjectWise
- Raster Design
- Microsoft Office Suite
Ideally, you will hold an HNC in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline. However, candidates with equivalent experience gained within a Transmission Substation Design Drawing Office environment will also be considered.
