Substation Senior Project Manager
Substation Project Manager | HV Transmission Infrastructure | UK
A major UK energy infrastructure developer is seeking a Grid Connection Project Manager to drive the delivery of large-scale transmission and substation connection projects nationwide.
This role lies in client-side delivery, where you’ll oversee core HV infrastructure works, specifically 400/275kV National Grid / SSE substation connections. As the client representative, you’ll guide projects from early-stage planning & design to construction, commissioning, and handover.
Operating within a fast-growing Grid Delivery function, you’ll engage in high-impact energy infrastructure projects, backed by a proven history of delivering some of Europe’s largest battery storage schemes.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead delivery of HV substation and grid connection projects on behalf of the client
- Manage crucial stakeholder interfaces, including National Grid, NESO, DNOs, ICPs, contractors, and consultants
- Oversee design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover phases
- Drive programme performance, challenge delays, and ensure efficient project progression
- Review and approve technical documentation, contractor deliverables, and designs
- Ensure compliance with CDM regulations, HV safety standards, and industry frameworks
- Monitor contractor performance, site progress, risks, and reporting metrics
- Support procurement activities, tender evaluations, and contract administration
- Lead stakeholder meetings, site inspections, and project governance activities

Requirements
- Proven track record in HV substation or transmission project (132kV+)
- Deep understanding of grid connection processes and TSO/DNO interfaces
- Experience in client-side, EPC, principal contracting, or Owner’s Engineer environments
- Knowledge of National Grid frameworks & transmission projects
- Hands-on experience delivering substation schemes, SGTs, or bay extensions
- Strong stakeholder & contractor management capability
- Degree-qualified in Electrical Engineering or related discipline (beneficial)
- APM / PRINCE2 / PMP qualifications universally advantageous

Benefits & Package
- Base salary: £90k – £100k
- Performance bonus: Up to 50% potential
- Hybrid working arrangement available
