SuDS Engineer
Senior Surface Water Engineer (SuDS, Drainage & Hydraulic Modelling) – Jacobs
About the Role

Your role will involve bringing technical expertise in flood risk, sustainable drainage systems (SuDS), and water quality to deliver transformative real-world solutions. Leading projects from conceptual design to construction, you’ll collaborate across disciplines to ensure seamless project delivery while upholding the highest standards of sustainability, safety, and innovation.
Your Impact
As a key member of our team, your responsibilities will include:
- Delivering outline and detailed designs for surface water drainage solutions, including:
- SuDS (Sustainable Drainage Systems)
- Green infrastructure
- Gravity piped drainage strategies
- Reviewing design calculations, hydraulic models, contract documents, and specifications for accuracy and compliance.
- Overseeing the entire project lifecycle, from feasibility studies to detailed design and construction.
- Conducting hydrological and hydraulic modelling for surface water systems, utilising tools such as:
- MicroDrainage
- InfoDrainage
- InfoWorks ICM
- Causeway Flow
- Ensuring designs incorporate climate resilience and biodiversity considerations.
- Advancing best practice and innovation in water resource management and green infrastructure.
- Enforcing compliance with local, national, and international water management and environmental regulations.

What You’ll Need
We’re seeking a technically experienced and inspired leader who can drive excellence in drainage and SuDS engineering. Ideal candidates will have:
- Chartered status (or working towards) with professional bodies such as:
- ICE (Institution of Civil Engineers)
- CIWEM (Chartered Institute of Water and Environmental Management)
- In-depth knowledge of relevant:
- Legislation
- Planning policy
- Design standards for water infrastructure
- Strong understanding of Safety in Design and CDM (Construction Design and Management) requirements.
- Proficient use of hydraulic modelling software:
- MicroDrainage
- InfoDrainage
- InfoWorks ICM
- Causeway Flow
- Comfort leading roles with experience in:
- Mentoring colleagues
- Fostering career and capability development within multidisciplinary teams
