Role Overview

We are currently recruiting for a Summer Chemistry R&D Student Placement based in Cambridge in our Solid Form and Particle Engineering (SFPE) team. The 3-month placement, covering the summer of 2026, will provide valuable practical industrial skills in areas such as:

  • Solid-form and physicochemical profiling
  • Salt/polymorph, cocrystal screening and selection
  • Chiral separation
  • Scale-up and crystallisation development of forms

Our laboratories feature state-of-the-art instrumentation:

  • X-Ray Powder Diffraction (including variable temperature and humidity)
  • Single Crystal Diffraction
  • Thermal analysis (DSC and TGA)
  • GVS/DVS
  • Sirius automated pKa/logP and solubility measurement platforms
  • Multiple crystallisation development tools
  • PAT tools including:
    • Optimax reactor
    • Mettler Toledo FBRM, PVM
    • Renishaw Raman Spectroscopy
    • Malvern Mastersizer 3000

Core Responsibilities

  • Comply with relevant SOPs and demonstrate commitment to Veranova’s Safety and Quality cultures.
  • Conduct laboratory experiments as part of investigative R&D work.
  • Provide technical and analytical support by performing analyses on API molecules.
  • Understand ongoing projects to contribute to planning and experimental design.
  • Maintain detailed records of work performed and prepare reports where needed.
  • Adhere to safety protocols while maintaining a clean, orderly workspace.
  • Collaborate with other departments within the group, particularly analytics.

Qualifications

Successful applicants will:

  • Be currently pursuing a Chemistry- or Pharmaceutical Sciences-based undergraduate degree (or similar) by summer 2026, having completed 2 years of study by then;
  • Have practical laboratory experience.
  • Be adaptable to shifting priorities and demonstrate a willingness to learn.
  • Exhibit high attention to detail with a focus on accuracy.
  • Possess strong communication skills, able to convey technical information across diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrate problem-solving abilities and be capable of independent work.
