Summer Usher Opinion - Shoreham Silo Services Ltd

We are looking for a hands-on, enthusiastic individual to join our team during the busy summer harvest season at Shoreham Silo Services Ltd in Shoreham Port. This role offers real-world experience in a grain storage and export facility, during one of the most dynamic times of the year.

Your Responsibilities

As a Silo Usher (or Harvest Season Worker), your role will include a mix of hands-on tasks, quality checks, and operational support:

  • Sampling and inspecting incoming lorry loads of grain, ensuring quality standards are met before acceptance.
  • Monitoring intake operations and liaising with lorry drivers to maintain smooth workflow.
  • Recording quality check results and ensuring accurate internal documentation.
  • Identifying and escalating any non-compliant loads that fail quality standards.
  • Assisting ship loading operations, including learning to operate the grain loading spout (working at heights is involved—full training provided).
  • Handling the grain movement control system within the silos.
  • Developing knowledge of grain storage practices and quality control measures.
  • Supporting the site operations team in various practical tasks to keep activities running efficiently.
