Supermarket Assistant

About the Role

As a Supermarket Assistant, you'll help our difference be felt by our customers on every visit, providing the Partner-led service and passion for food that our competitors can’t compete with—passionate Partners serving food lovers! Your drive to go the extra mile will make all the difference to the impression our customers have about Waitrose and keep them returning again and again by earning their trust and loyalty for a lifetime.

In addition to your contractual pay, any time worked between 22:00–06:00 will attract Night Premium at a rate of £3.75 per hour. This also applies to existing Partners enrolled in Enhanced Hours Premium.

Key Responsibilities

Alongside outstanding customer service, your role will include:

  • Stock replenishment to ensure shelves remain full and products are correctly positioned
  • Fulfilling online customer orders for delivery by our drivers
  • Reducing waste through proper product due diligence and markdowns for expiring items
  • Supporting the wider shop team, including checkout operations, Click & Collect, and on-demand orders
  • Maintaining a safe, tidy, and efficient workspace

Requirements

Essential Skills/Experience

  • Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with both colleagues and customers

Desirable Skills/Experience

  • Previous experience in a customer-facing role
  • Up-to-date knowledge and strong interest in food and drink trends
  • Flexibility to support the entire branch as needed

Salary: £13.00 per hour (£13.25 after 90 days) Contract Type: Permanent Hours: Part-time (26.5 hrs/week), including Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday Location: Waitrose & Partners, Newmarket (Fred Archer Way, Newmarket, Suffolk, CB8 8NY)
