Supermarket Assistant
About the Role
As a Supermarket Assistant, you’ll help shape our brand difference with customers every visit. Deliver Partner-led service and unwavering passion for food that competitors can’t match—passionate Partners serving food lovers! Stand out by going the extra mile, fostering trust, and building long-term customer loyalty for Waitrose.
Key responsibilities include*:
- Providing exceptional customer service
- Ensuring a seamless shopping experience
Essential Responsibilities Alongside customer service, your role ensures smooth shop operations through:

Stock replenishment:
- Keep shelves fully stocked at all times
- Ensure products are placed correctly for accessibility and visibility

Online order fulfilment:
- Pack and dispatch online customer orders to waiting drivers
- Support e-commerce growth with timely dispatch

Waste reduction:
- Adhere to product due diligence and quantity markdowns to avoid excess stock damaging shelf life
- Follow "first in, first out" strategies for perishable goods

Team collaboration:
- Offer support across Operational Partner tasks, including:
- Checkout assistance during busy periods
- Click & Collect order management
- On-demand order processing

- Shop maintenance:
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organised workplace
- Conduct routine shopkeeping duties like floor wiping, board rotation, and inventory checks
Essential Skills/experience
- Strong communication skills to thrive in a team environment and engaged with customer facing interactions

Desirable Skills/experience & Qualities
- Previous experience in a customer-facing role
- Up-to-date knowledge of food and drink trends with a keen interest in culinary innovations
- Flexibility—adaptable to varying shifts and first-aid support demands across the branch
