The Opportunity
Compass Fostering is looking for a knowledgeable Supervising Social Worker to join our team.
- Location: Based in Newton Aycliffe, covering the Newton Aycliffe area.
- Work Arrangements: Hybrid model, blending office, remote and on-site visits to foster carers.

We’re seeking a Social Worker ready to influence change—whether you’re an established Supervising Social Worker looking for something new, or already passionately engaged in fostering and childcare.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate creatively with foster carers and young people, helping them reach their full potential.
- Manage a caseload of up to 15 fostering families, offering support, guidance, and skill development.
- Provide wrap-around support to foster carers, including an out-of-hours on-call service.
- Contribute actively to the growth and development of our Fostering Service.
- Apply expertise in fostering regulations, child care law, and safeguarding.

Requirements
To be considered, you must:
- Demonstrate a reflective, creative approach when working with foster carers and young people.
- Have a typical caseload of up to 13 fostering families.
- Be committed to out-of-hours on-call support for foster carers.
- Hold a qualified Social Work professional qualification.
- Be registered with Social Work England (SWE).
- Have experience in fostering-related social work or childcare, including the looked-after children’s team.
- Identify and assess needs of young people effectively.
- Maintain a strong knowledge of fostering regulations, childcare law, and safeguarding.
- Be proficient in objective professional assessments of children and young people.
- Have access to a car and a valid driving licence.
All applicants will be subject to satisfactory references and enhanced DBS clearance.

Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive salary based on pay grade, experience and qualifications.
- Travel package: 45p per mile + £100 monthly car allowance.
