Supervising Social Worker

Supervising Social Worker – Compass Fostering

We are Compass Fostering, and we’re seeking a knowledgeable and dedicated Supervising Social Worker (SSW) to join our team in Newton Aycliffe.

This role offers:

  • A hybrid working model (home & office base).
  • Caseload support across Newton Aycliffe with visits to fostering families.

Compensation & Support

  • Travel package: 45p per mile + £100/month car allowance.
  • Low caseload responsibility (typically up to 15 fostering families).

  • Annual payments: £200 (2 years), £400 (5 years), £600 (10 years).

Essential & Desirable Criteria

Rotation: Essentials

  • Commitment to therapeutic intervention, flexibility & empathy—driving young people and fostering families to realise their full potential.

  • The ability to manage a caseload of up to 15 foster families, offering supportive guidance and continuous practice-based learning.

  • Dedication to a 24/7 on-call rota as part of wrap-around care for fostering families.

  • Passion for continuous improvement in fostering service delivery.

  • Relevant professional Social Work qualification.

  • Registered with Social Work England.

  • Proven fostering-related experience (e.g., in teams like Looked After Children or fostering services).

Experience Requirements

  • Evidence demonstrating experience in:
    • Identifying and meeting the needs of vulnerable children and young people.
    • Making objective professional assessments of children/young people’s well-being needs.
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • Fostering regulations.
    • Childcare & safeguarding law.

Core Skills

  • Effective communication and weaving in treating/therapeutic relationships.
  • Driving youth transitions towards stability and growth.
  • Preference given to candidates with recent fostering SAMISH research project or pathways paper experience.

Contingencies

  • Full DBS Enhanced background check clearance.
  • Valid driver’s license with personal access to a vehicle.
