Location: Gloucester
Job Role
We’re looking for an experienced Surfacing Supervisor to lead on-site delivery. You’ll manage crews, drive safety and quality, keep programmes on track, and support cost control and KPI reporting. This role is pivotal in improving communication and delivery standards as the contract enters its final improvement phase.
Duties
- Lead safety on site: Deliver briefings and toolbox talks, communicate safety bulletins, and drive near-miss and positive intervention reporting. Ensure compliance with company HSE policies, pre-construction plans, RAMS, and sector requirements.
- Manage programmes and resources: Coordinate day and night shifts, plant, and materials to meet programme and budget objectives; pre-measure sites and plan tonnages with the foreman.
- Assure quality: Maintain Sector 16 compliance (including temperature checks and daily laying records), control levels, profile, and tolerances, and embed a “Right First Time” mindset.
- Maintain site records: Complete and submit daily record sheets, including traffic management, plant and vehicle checks, defects, sweeping, laying records, waste transfer notes, site inductions, utilities/overhead cables, guarding and coning, and working hours.
- Promote digital ways of working: Use company systems and digital tools to enhance reporting, communication, and workflow.
- Client and stakeholder liaison: Attend pre-site meetings, agree methods of working, develop strong professional relationships, and provide effective after-sales support and feedback.
- Commercial support and change control: Assist with cost monitoring and final accounts; capture changes (e.g. DSRs and photographs), ensure timely final measures and client sign-off, and submit complete site records promptly.
- KPI reporting: Provide monthly data, including exposure hours, planing tonnages, waste, and vehicle/plant information for carbon footprint reporting.
- Team leadership: Mentor apprentices and new starters, work closely with multiple crews, and ensure plant security and defect reporting.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
