Supervisory Ward Sister (SAU & SDEC) – Full-Time Role (Monday–Friday with Occasional Weekend Cover)
About the Role
North Bristol NHS Trust (NBT) and University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW) are collaborate to merge in July 2026, creating an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated professional.
This role allows you to co-lead the Surgical Admissions Unit (SAU) and Surgical Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC), ensuring high-quality patient-centred care in a dynamic, multi-disciplinary environment.

Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Patient Care
- Collaborative leadership across SAU & SDEC, ensuring safe, excellent patient care.
- Full accountability for shift management, including workflow optimisation.
- Safeguarding admission standards—participating in assessment, planning, and delivery of care.
- Clinical expertise in surgical admissions, multi-disciplinary engagement, and evidence-based practice.
- Audit and continuous quality improvement to adapt to service needs.
Team & Resource Management
- Staff development through flexible resource allocation and up-to-date training.
- Efficient use of facilities, infrastructure, and budget to reduce waste and improve efficiency.
- Initiative to boost clinical standards, facilitate change, and meet patient-service demands.

Required Knowledge & Experience
Education & Qualifications
Essential: 🔹 Active NMC Pin 🔹 BSc Adult Nursing 🔹 Recognition as a teacher (e.g., teaching qualification) 🔹 Level 3/4 professional development (e.g., master’s level)
Desirable: 🔹 Management accreditation 🔹 Postgraduate qualifications (MSc preferred)
Core Skills & Experience
Essential: 🔹 Specialist expertise in acute surgery + admissions experience 🔹 Significant role in Band 6 / Senior Sister positions 🔹 Strong leadership in post-registration nursing 🔹 Proven ** Change Management**, team leading, and pathway/service development experience 🔹 Exceptional communication with patients, relatives, and multidisciplinary teams
