Job Overview

An exciting opportunity has now arisen to be part of an excellent team in the Bright Dialysis unit at North Bristol NHS Trust. We are a forward-thinking department with an emphasis on staff development and training- we believe strongly that supporting our staff to grow and develop creates a great place to work and enables us to provide excellent care with compassion. We are seeking a highly motivated, enthusiastic individual who can bring his/her clinical expertise to the team.

Bright dialysis unit values the personal skills, experiences and qualities that individuals bring to our department, creating a diverse and knowledgeable team who feel motivated and able to influence the future direction of our service.

Main Duties of the Job

  • Take personal responsibility for ensuring that Trust and local policies and procedures are known and followed
  • Know and follow the advisory guidelines as laid down by the NMC
  • Able to organize and co-ordinate services
  • Assist in the implementation and evaluation of quality/initiatives/standards
  • Plans work of ward, staff training, rosters, short term cover – adjusts to cover emergencies
  • Promote and maintain a safe and comfortable therapeutic environment for all patients and a pleasant and receptive climate for the patients, their relatives and friends
  • Check the readiness for use of special equipment and availability of nursing supplies
  • Recommend and practice acceptable economies for the promotion of an effective and efficient nursing service
  • Develops program of care. Undertakes a full nursing assessment, plan and evaluate nursing care for patients
  • Ensure the safe custody of patients’ valuables and property
  • Ensure the safe custody and administration of medicines
  • Undertake additional nursing skills for administration of IV drugs
  • Undertakes appraisals forward staff, and develops staff
  • Manages sickness and absence
  • Accountable for own professional actions not directly supervised
  • Management of recruitment and retention
  • Leads clinical audit
  • Be aware of Trust’s Health and Safety guidelines and attend sessions as required e.g. Fire procedures, manual handling etc.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

The post holder will be responsible for leading and monitoring the performance of the nursing team. Also responsible for the development of programs of care, assessing implementing and evaluating nursing care. He/she is designated to ensure the effective running of the ward and managing resources. The ward manager/ Supervisory ward sister has 24-hour responsibility for the ward/ unit and holds and manages the ward budget.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Bachelor of Science in Adult Nursing ( Degree)
  • Current NMC registration
  • Recent study Degree/ MSc level or working towards
  • Teaching and assessing (Degree or similar)

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Management or leadership course or equivalent proven management ability
  • Already Working as a band 7 Manager/charge nurse/SWS

Desirable criteria

  • A range of experience in Nursing Care
  • Renal experience but not essential
  • willingness to study in leadership qualification
