In Work Support Advisor – Recovery Employability Service
Location: Based within Murray’s Initiative’s Head Office in North Claremont Street, Glasgow, with travel throughout Glasgow City for service delivery
Contract: Part-time (16 hours per week including one evening per week and occasional Saturdays) – Fixed term until 31st July 2028
Salary: Starting at £26,002 per annum (pro-rata)
About Us
Murray’s Initiative (formerly known as Glasgow Council on Alcohol) is an independent Scottish charity dedicated to reducing alcohol and drug-related harm at both individual and community levels. Established in 1965, the organisation promotes a trauma-informed and asset-based approach, working through a person-centred, harm-reduction model.
Our services include:
- Free, confidential counselling for individuals concerned about alcohol/drug use
- Groupwork and employability support
- Specialised services:
- A women’s service for survivors of gender-based violence
- Young person’s peer education
- LGBTQ+ health and wellbeing support
- Tailored wellbeing programmes
- Professional development, including COSCA Counselling Skills and a Diploma in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy
Murray’s Initiative operates six days a week across Glasgow, East Dunbartonshire, and East Renfrewshire, helping people achieve meaningful, positive change.

About The Role
The In Work Support Advisor will provide personalised support to individuals in recovery who are employed, helping them sustain and progress in their careers. Duties include one-to-one guidance, barrier identification, career development, and collaboration with employers and partner agencies.
This role reports to the Service Manager – Employability.

Key Requirements:
- Membership of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme (mandatory for protected-adult work).
Key Responsibilities
As an In Work Support Advisor, you will:
- Manage a caseload of participants, tailoring support to help them:
- Sustain employment
- Achieve personal and professional goals
- Deliver one-to-one in-work support, including:
- Coaching and guidance to identify/address employment barriers
- Enhancing job retention, progression, and wellbeing
- Develop personalised support plans aligned with participant needs
- Build strong employer relationships to:
- Facilitate successful job outcomes
- Promote fieldworkplace retention
- Encourage career progression
- Monitor progress closely, interveners proactively when challenges arise
- Maintain accurate records of participant activity, outcomes, and evidence
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, employers, and partner organisations
- Support service targets through effective planning and continuous improvement
- Promote awareness of employability services within the community
- Uphold organisational values including: safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion
- Adapt to duties as required by the Service Manager – Employability.
Qualifications And Experience
Candidates may demonstrate qualifications or rich life/industry experience. Preferred:
- Formal qualifications in:
- Employability guidance
- Coaching
- Related social work, care, or development fields
- Experience supporting employability with a track record of:
- Building trust and maintaining strong professional relationships
- Overcoming barriers to goal achievement in:
- Employment
- Education
- Training
- Social care contexts
- One-to-one support (coaching/mentoring) with diverse client pools
- Caseload management alongside concurrent record-keeping and documentation
- Employer/stakeholder collaboration to enhance client opportunities
- Progress-monitoring in alignment with service targets
