Support Assistant

Support Assistant – Fixed Term Contract (Ending 31/05/2027)

Job Overview

Contract Type: Fixed Term Contract – ending on 31/05/2027 Salary: £26,227.50 per annum Working Hours: Full-time (37.5 hours per week), across a 7-day rota including weekends and bank holidays Location: [Old Tea Warehouse, High Wycombe]

The Difference You’ll Make

As a Support Assistant, you’ll play a critical role in the day-to-day operations of Riverside’s supported housing services. Your key responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring the safety and wellbeing of customers living in our accommodation.
  • Managing customer interactions with external agencies (e.g., GP, Social Services, benefits teams).
  • Coordinating responses to emergencies (including police and ambulance services).
  • Logging incidents to maintain accurate records and preparing rooms for new occupants post-tenancy.
  • Supporting customers with tenancy-related and administrative matters.

About You

Essential Requirements

  • Proven experience in customer-facing roles, particularly with vulnerable individuals.
  • Understanding of supporting vulnerable populations (e.g., lived experience of homelessness, substance misuse, or mental health challenges).
  • Basic administrative and IT skills, with strong attention to detail.

Desirable (Not Mandatory)

  • Experience working with vulnerable or diverse groups with complex needs.
  • Personal lived experience of homelessness, rough sleeping, mental health challenges, or substance misuse.

Role Profile

Support Customers

Using psychologically informed and trauma-informed approaches, your role includes:

✔ Helping customers develop independence, budgeting skills, and median management through tailored support programmes. ✔ Signposting customers to external resources (e.g., food banks, job centres). ✔ Ensuring all records—including risk assessments, support plans, and outreach efforts—are clear, accurate, and strengths-based. ✔ Empowering self-management of medications (aligned with Riverside’s procedures). ✔ Leading group work sessions, peer support, and community engagement activities.

Deliver Support Services

  • Manage referrals, housing allocations, and tenancy support.
  • Handle income collection, rent accounts, and petty cash administration.
  • Maintain health and safety, repairs, and safeguarding compliance.
  • Resolve complex situations sensitively while ensuring team safety.
  • Cleetain bereavement or room turnover procedures (cleaning, customer goodbyes).

Core Responsibilities

  • Admin & Operations: Daily administrative tasks and operational duties (e.g., data entry, system updates).
  • Customer Liaison: Acting as a key contact for telephone, reception, and drop-in enquiries.
  • Health & Safety: Ensuring compliance with GDPR, safeguarding, financial controls, and petty cash handling.
  • Team Collaboration: Participating in supervised intentional practice sessions and team meetings.
  • Training & Development: Engaging in ongoing training to meet role performance standards.

Flexible & Supportive Role

  • Work required outside standard office hours to accommodate customer needs.
  • May perform travel obligations to other Riverside locations as part of future deployment.
  • Use of lone worker systems when necessary.
