Looking for flexible Support Mentor work with local schools without going through an agency?

Flexzo Teach is a platform that connects education professionals directly with educational settings for short-term, long-term, and permanent opportunities. We’re building local talent pools in Scunthorpe and inviting Support Mentors to register.

Roles & Responsibilities

As a Support Mentor in an Alternative Provision setting, you will play a vital role in guiding students who require tailored educational and emotional pathways. Your responsibilities include:

  • Working closely with session leaders to deliver impactful learning activities, ensuring resources are accessible and tailored to individual student needs.
  • Acting as a trusted, positive role model, offering a safe space where students can talk, share concerns, and feel heard.
  • Implementing trauma-informed and positive behaviour support strategies to help students navigate stress, anxiety, or frustration in real-time.
  • Keeping students motivated and focused on their tasks using creative, personalised encouragement and a high level of resilience.
  • Helping young people close learning gaps while simultaneously building essential life skills, teamwork, and social confidence.

What You’ll Need

To become a Support Mentor with Flexzo Teach, you must have:

  • Previous mentor experience, youth work experience, or a strong relevant background supporting young people with complex needs (e.g., SEMH, SEND).
  • The Right to Work in the UK.
  • An enhanced DBS check on the Update Service (or a willingness to obtain one).
  • A Level 3 qualification, relevant youth work/mentoring certifications, or equivalent hands-on experience in an educational or care setting.
