Support Officer – Permanent Job Description
Job Title: Support Officer
Contract Type: Permanent
Salary: £29,713.46 per annum
Working Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Working Pattern: Monday–Friday shifts including
- 9am–5pm
- 1pm–9pm
Location: Greenwich Mental Health, Greenwich, Kent

The Impact You’ll Make
As a Support Officer, you’ll:
- Provide tailored support to customers, including connecting them with employability coaches and benefits teams.
- Help clients manage finances, secure permanent housing, and rebuild confidence.

This role is rewarding but challenging—requiring resilience, empathy and the ability to switch off work outside working hours.
About You
We’re looking for candidates who:
- Have experience supporting vulnerable people.
- Can deliver structured, risk-informed interventions.
- Are collaborative, empathetic and resilient, with a solutions-focused mindset.
- Understand complex needs, whether through lived experience (e.g., homelessness, addiction) or professional work.
- Can adapt to flexible schedules, including lone working when required.

Role Profile
Supporting Customers
Our approach incorporates Psychologically Informed Engagement (PIE) and Trauma-Informed Care to guide customers towards independence:
- Co-produce personalised support plans (collaborating with families/support networks).
- Conduct regular risk plan reviews (post-incidents or significant life changes).
- Facilitate goal setting and life skill development.
- Assist with practical/living needs (e.g., tenancy, repairs, healthcare).
- Connect individuals to employment, education, and training, removing barriers.
- Signpost to external resources (food banks, community networks).
- Prepare clients for permanent housing and financial independence (budgeting, benefit maximisation).
- Monitor healthcare needs, ensuring proper professional engagement.
- Oversee medication management, fostering client autonomy.
- Lead groupwork initiatives where applicable.
- Uphold safeguarding principles—identifying/responding to risks and escalating appropriately.
- Maintain clear, strength-based customer records electronically.

Service Delivery
- Manage customer referrals and assessments.
- Lead income haugh macarono housing support, including debt management.
- Collaborate locally to create holistic linkages for residents.
- Perform property health & safety checks, including cleaning/preparation tasks.
- Address adjutationsalar situations tactfully, balancing individual needs with service safety.
- Use a Lone Worker system when required.

- Flexible hours beyond "office" times.
- On-site travel within defined areas.
- Must align with Riverside’s code of conduct (e.g., safeguarding, GDPR, dignity at work).
- Contribute to team meetings, supervisions, and coaching sessions.
- Commit to ongoing training for safety and growth.
Person Specification
Essential:
- Understanding of the barriers facing diverse/vulnerable groups (including complex needs).
- Risk management and support delivery.
- Collaborative, emotionally intelligent with a can-do attitude.
- Conflict resolution experience.
- Decision-making autonomy with proactivity.
- Administrative/IT competence (special reports, data entry).
Desirable:
- Trauma-informed or psychological support knowledge/approach.
- Experience in challenging environments (proracis work, balancing multiple priorities).
- Benefits/entitlement systems knowledge.
- Familiarity with care and housing support sectors.
