Support Officer – £28,264 per annum
About the Role
We seek caring and compassionate colleagues to provide purposeful, outcome-focused support to young people living at Ty Parc, our new supported accommodation project in Abergavenny. This is an opportunity to shape a new service from the ground up.
Every young person deserves the chance to take their next steps with confidence. As a Support Officer, you’ll play a vital role in helping five care-experienced young people aged 16+ create sustainable, positive changes in their lives.
What We Believe
We believe good support is built through positive relationships. This means working with young people rather than for them. You’ll help craft a safe, supportive environment where residents feel:
- Listened to
- Respected
- Empowered to reach their goals
This role is meaningful but challenging—no two days will be the same. You’ll provide trauma-informed support, helping young people rebuild trust, confidence, and stability at their own pace. At Taff Housing Association, we work in a psychologically-informed way, even when the work involves difficult emotions.
We’re a team that embraces individuality. Together, we foster a culture that’s supportive, inclusive, and welcoming.
What You’ll Do
You’ll be fundamental to the daily operation of Ty Parc, focusing on a small cohort of care-experienced young people transitioning toward independence. Key responsibilities include:
- Assessment, planning, and risk management – Lead support strategies and help young people set SMART goals for their future.
- Pastoral support – Foster trusting relationships with residents, tailoring interventions to their needs while maintaining confidentiality and safety.
- Team leadership – Line-manage support assistants, ensuring they feel confident and equipped to deliver trauma-informed care. You’ll also model this approach in your own work.
- Incident and crisis response – Rotate on-call duties to support the 24/7 service, responding to safety concerns and escalating issues as needed.
- Workshops and activity delivery – Coordinate activities and workshops to improve residents’ independence, wellbeing, and life skills.
- Collaboration – Work with partner agencies to coordinate support and share updates securely.
- Note-taking and reporting – Maintain detailed, timely records of resident interactions and communicate risks clearly across the team.
- Multi-disciplinary meetings – Attend sessions with external agencies to safeguard service users and improve best practices.
- Safeguarding compliance – Follow protocols for child protection and health & safety, adhering to visitors’ policy to protect everyone in the project.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
