Community Medical Secretary Assistant – Staffordshire
About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Staffordshire Community Secretarial Team, providing essential support to Medical Secretaries across various NHS services.
The role will involve:
- Supporting clinical correspondence handling
- Telephone management, message taking, and query resolution
- Maintaining departmental clinical records and filing systems
- Performing case note maintenance and ensuring accurate documentation
- Effective liaison with wards, departments, patients, and healthcare providers
- Monitoring a generic departmental email account
Flexibility will be key, as the role requires occasional cross-site working between Sir Robert Peel Community Hospital and Samuel Johnson Community Hospital.
Responsibilities
- Typing clinical correspondence in an accurate and timely manner
- Answering phones, taking messages, and resolving patient/enquiry queries
- Assisting with filing and record-keeping, ensuring smooth departmental operations
- Performing regular case note maintenance and ensuring compliance with filing protocols
- Acting as a first-point liaison between medical teams, wards, and patients
- Monitoring and responding to an NHS email inbox efficiently
- Collaborating with medical secretaries, consultants, and cross-site teams where necessary

Requirements & Attributes
- Strong teamwork mentality and ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to prioritise workloads under pressure
- Willingness to learn and adapt to NHS practices
- Typing proficiency for clinical documentation (skills training provided if required)
A priori NHS experience is advantageous, but is not essential to apply.
