Support Worker (Ashfield House) – Full Time

- Requires a full UK driving licence (vehicle provided for resident transport).
About Ashfield Gardens
Ashfield Gardens is a pioneering community supporting adults with complex needs, offering three core services across a five-acre organic site:
✔ Ashfield Social Farm & Garden – A five-acre organic space providing day opportunities for supported work, horticulture, and animal care (poultry & horses).
✔ Ashfield House – The Trust’s only residential care home for adults with complex needs.
✔ Supported Living & Volunteer Opportunities – Floating support across localised properties for independent living.
The Stourbridge Community serves ~120 adults with a team of 70+ staff and volunteers, blending social farming, organic growing, and holistic care.
The Site’s Community Impact & Offering
The site produces organic food to support Camphill Village Trust’s housing, with surplus sold to the local community.
A large kitchen on-site provides: ☑ Opportunities to gain cookery skills using locally sourced ingredients. ☑ Integration of work and social skills through practical, meaningful activities.
Duties & Responsibilities
Main Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Team Leader, you will:
Resident Wellbeing & Personal Development
- Foster independence, choice, and control by planning support to help residents:
- Maintain a clean, tidy, and welcoming living environment.
- Use appropriate laundry equipment for self-care (e.g., washing clothes).
- Engage in shopping, meal planning, and cooking alongside residents, respecting personal preferences and dietary needs.
- Assist with medical appointments to support overall health and well-being.
- Support financial management (budgeting, benefits access, and affordability).
- Encourage active social lives, respecting individual choices and wishes.
- Provide opportunities for training, work, and employment support where desired.

Personal Care & Support
- Provide personal care (e.g., bathing, hair washing) as per care plans where appropriate licensing is in place.
Residential & Financial Support
- Ensure residents receive:
- Housing support to maintain tenancies, follow budgeting, and handle finances.
- Assistance accessing landlord services for repairs, maintenance, and safety checks.
- Support with division 10 meter readings and council tax policies.
Organisational & People-Centred Responsibilities
- Follow Trust policies, safeguarding, and equality/diversity principles.
- Embrace and implement the philanthropy values, supporting independence and human rights.
- Commit to continuing professional development, training, and embodying the role’s ethical principles.
Person Specification
Knowledge & Experience
- Essential:
- Previous experience in care or support settings, ideally with adults with learning disabilities (applicants without this experience will need to evidence the required competencies).
- A valid UK Driving Licence (minimum 2 years).
- Desirable:
- Experience working in anthroposophical care organisations.
- Understanding of risk assessments, care planning, safeguarding, person-centred approaches, health & safety, equality, and human rights.
- Support for the Trust’s values of community-building and holistic care.

Qualifications
- Reasonable general education (evidence of numeracy and literacy).
- Highly desirable: A Level 2 or 3 Health & Social Care Diploma (applicants without a qualification can be considered if they demonstrate relevant competencies).
