Support Worker

Support Worker

Location: West Cornforth, Durham Contract: Permanent, full-time (37.5 hrs per week) Salary: £13.45 per hour (£26,300 per annum) Benefits:

About the Role

Join the Support Worker team at Home Group and make a meaningful impact in the lives of customers every day. You’ll work to support independence, dignity, and connectedness, providing practical and emotional care tailored to each individual.

This role delivers practical and emotional support—no personal care is required—and focuses on activities like:

  • Daily living assistance (meals, shopping, budgeting, cleaning)
  • Appointment support and tenancy management
  • Facilitating progress toward personal goals

What You’ll Do

Core Responsibilities

  • Assist customers with daily activities, such as meal preparation, shopping, and cleaning, to promote self-sufficiency.
  • Help arrange and accompany customers to appointments and activities, ensuring they maintain independence.
  • Develop personalised support plans and track progress toward achievable goals, supporting confidence-building.
  • Conduct risk assessments, safeguarding investigations and ensure compliance with health & safety regulations.
  • Carry out office duties and paperwork using online document systems—familiarity with technology is essential.

Requirements

Must-Haves

  • Valid UK driving licence with business-use insurance.
  • Reliable transportation or ability to work carrot-enabled (company pays mileage).
  • Strong listening and communication skills, with the ability to tailor support to individual needs.
  • Calm under pressure and the ability to work autonomously whilst being accountable for the work.
  • Commitment to equality, inclusion, and wellbeing—we’re an inclusive employer committed to diversity.
  • Enhanced DBS clearance (paid by us).

Desirable

  • Experience with mental health (preferred, as many support plans involve emotional and behavioural considerations).
  • Experience in a care-related environment (supporting, not mandatory but advantageous).

Working Patterns

  • 4-week rolling rota, 5 days per week (covering weekends and shifts)
  • Shift timings include:
    • 08:00–16:00
    • 12:00–20:00
    • 13:15–21:15 (Yes, we like to go the extra mile when it really matters)
