Support Worker

About Southdown
We are a not-for-profit provider supporting 160 adults with learning and physical disabilities across Sussex. Our services include:
- 23 supported living services
- 4 residential care homes
Windebanks Service
A supported living service for five individuals with learning disabilities, comprising:
- Five self-contained flats across two floors
- Located in Donnington, Chichester
- Easy access to Chichester town centre, local shops, and public transport
Our focus: Empowering clients to lead active, fulfilling lives while building their choice, control, and independence.
The Role

Core Responsibilities
- Encourage clients to engage with their community through activities like walks, cinema visits, shopping, and café outings
- Provide daily living support, including:
- Cooking
- Cleaning
- Personal care
- Foster confidence and independence through empowering care
- Build strong relationships with clients, celebrating their unique qualities and personalities

Key Duties
- Support adaptive activities for personal development
- Assist with maintaining clients’ living spaces and promoting well-being
- Collaborate with a professional team to tailor care plans
Optional Engagement
Applicants may occasionally support clients at alternative locations depending on service needs.
Allowances
(Dependent on shift hours)
- Unsociable hours uplift: £4.51 extra per waking night shift
- Sleep-in shifts (10pm–7am): £61 per shift
- Sleep-in disturbance pay:
- 1–4 hours disturbed: Unscheduled uphill pay + hourly rate for time worked
- 4+ hours disturbed: Full hourly rate + £4.51 allowance

Training and Support
No prior experience? No problem – we provide:

Nice-to-Haves
Here if helpful/experienced:
- Working with learning disabilities, cognitive or physical disabilities, or mental health issues
- Managing challenging behaviours
- Knowledge of medication administration and record-keeping
- Familiarity with Makaton/non-verbal communication methods

Physical & Operational Considerations
- Ability to assist with mobility support (e.g., wheelchairs, bathing)
- Longer walks as part of client activity options
- May require a full manual driving licence for vehicle support
Due to client care needs, the role may be restricted based on the Equality Act 2010.
