Support Worker
Carer/Support Worker – Trowbridge (Full-Time)

Trowbridge, Wiltshire
About the Role
We are seeking compassionate and dedicated Support Workers to help young adult Bobby live independently and achieve meaningful experiences. Due to unforeseen circumstances, Bobby and his family require additional support to enhance his quality of life.
Bobby (1998) currently lives with his parents and requires 24-hour assistance due to his complex needs, which include:
- Cortical Visual Impairment (CVI)
- Autism
- Mild cerebral palsy
- Moderate learning disability
Bobby engages passionately with:
- Learning about music and music technology (he is active on his iPad, games, and enjoys books tied to sound)
Key Contributions Expected
- Encouraging independence in daily living, personal care, and social activities
- Maximising participation in community and leisure pursuits, including safe mobility support
- Managing occasional emotional or sensory needs with patience and sensitivity
- Proactive supervision due to Bobby’s risk of distress in overwhelming environments
Position Details
Role Title
Carer/Support Worker / Client Recruitment Direct employment by our client (appointed by the Court of Protection). Day-to-day employment managed by ILS Case Management.

38+ hours weekly (~39.5 hours including 1x weekend per month)

Typical shifts and start date ASAP (subject to successful employment checks):
- Monday: 6 hours (12:00–18:00 / 10:00–16:00)
- Tuesday: 8 hours (08:30–16:30)
- Thursday: 6 hours (17:00–23:00 / 18:00–00:00)
- Friday: Flexible split shift (e.g., 6 day + 6 evening hours).
- Sunday: 6 hours.
- Saturday: 1x month (6 hours)

Bank shifts available for covering absences.
Remuneration
£15.00/hr (weekday day shifts, Mon-Fri).

£16.00/hr for weekend & bank holiday shifts.
Any sleeping nights = National Living Wage (NLW) payment.
Key Responsibilities
Core Duties
- Assist Bobby in community access, personal care, and daily activities while promoting his independence.
- Work alongside therapists and case managers to implement personalised support plans.
- Safeguard Bobby’s well-being by identifying and managing risks (physical, emotional, or sensory).
- Provide companionship, encouragement, and tailored activities (e.g., interactive iPad usage, music engagement).
- Adhere to professional standards, including handling injuries, safeguarding, and confidentiality.
Support Needs and Challenges
- Manage transitions to unfamiliar environments (providing encouragement with consistent cane use).
- Monitor and prevent behaviours of concern (self-injury/vocal distress, risk of leaving/overwhelming environments).
- Communicate with varying clarity constraints (e.g., technical language, delayed response times).
Requirements
Essential Skills
- Ability to work alongside specialised equipment (provided with Handling Management Plan for safety).
- Full driving licence (manual vehicle available: training or UK endorsement required for driving Bobby’s adapted car).
- Non-smoker (non-smoking household policy).
- Experience preferred with individuals with special needs, Autism, or learning disabilities (training provided if willing to learn).
Personality and Attitude
- High empathy, patience, and proactivity.
- Comfortable working in a family home (respecting boundaries and confidentiality).
- Friendly, trustworthy with consistent punctuality (ability to adhere to shift changes when required).
- Punctual, reliable, and committed to feedback without compromise.
- IT-literate and ability to communicate effectively (both verbally and in writing).

Additional Requirements
- Enhanced DBS check and disclosure of licencing/or driving history.
- Evidence of eligibility to work in the UK.
