Job Description: Support Worker

Pay: £12.74 per hour

Location: Rushcliffe Hospital - Aberavon, Scarlet Avenue Aberavon Port Talbot, SA12 7PH

Shifts: 36.00 hours per week (shift-based rota over 7 days including weekends and public holidays)

Support Worker

As a Support Worker with Rushcliffe Care Group, you will be part of the team responsible for delivering safe, effective, and person-centred care. Your role will have a direct impact on the quality of life and outcomes for the service users you support.

The Role

Responsibilities

As a Support Worker at Rushcliffe Care Group, your primary responsibility will be to provide physical, social, and psychological care to our service users. You will work closely with healthcare team leaders to ensure the well-being and dignity of individuals we support. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Promoting the dignity and independence of individuals we support, considering their unique needs and backgrounds.
  • Assisting with daily activities such as personal care, meal times, and social interactions, while encouraging freedom of choice.
  • Participating in social activities, outings, and hobbies, helping to create a vibrant and engaging atmosphere for those in our care.
  • Providing emotional and psychological support through active listening, conversation, and 1-to-1 activities.
  • Maintaining accurate documentation of care provided and reporting any changes in a service user’s physical or emotional state.
  • Adhering to health and safety regulations, ensuring a safe and clean environment for both service users and staff.
  • Undertaking training and development opportunities, including completing the Care Certificate within the probationary period.

About You

About The Service

Aberavon Hospital provides rehabilitation and recovery for people with complex, severe and enduring mental health challenges. Referrals will be accepted from medium/ low secure hospitals, PICU, acute admissions and the Criminal Justice System. Patients will be detained under the Mental Health Act 1983.

Rushcliffe Aberavon is an 18 bedded locked rehabilitation unit for males between the age of 18 and 65 with:

  • A primary diagnosis of mental illness or personality disorder, who would benefit treatment offered within a locked rehabilitation service.
  • Individuals who mental health illness coexists with learning disabilities, challenging behaviour or substance misuse.
  • Individuals who may have disengaged and failed to maintain contact with treatment services in the past.
  • Individuals who would benefit from support from rehabilitation services in preparing them to live independently in the community.
