About the Role

We are looking for caring, compassionate and hands-on people to join our team at 77 Flaxman Ave, Short Break Service for adults with a Learning/Physical Disability and/or Autism.

Flaxman Avenue is a six-bedded homely environment where our customers can come for a short stay tailored to meet their needs.

Our aim for the people you will be supporting is to promote and work towards developing independence skills to have as much control over their own lives as possible.

Daily Activities

On a daily basis, you may be involved in supporting with the following activities:

  • Cooking and cleaning
  • Washing and personal care
  • Managing finances, if required
  • Supporting with medication
  • Moving and positioning
  • Supporting wheelchair users
  • Supporting service users with complex health needs
  • Work with people whose behaviours can challenge

The role of Support Worker is an invaluable one: it is rewarding, complex and challenging and you will play an essential role in providing support and direct care to adults with Learning Disability and/or Autism who may display behaviours that challenge.

Requirements

You will need to have good organizational skills and be able to work as part of a Team as well as being able to use your own initiative. It’s of high importance that you have the compassion and integrity to treat people with dignity and respect. Care experience, whether it be caring for a family member or professionally, along with having is desirable but not essential as Care Certificate training will be available along with the opportunity to work towards level 2/3 qualification in care if you do not already have one.

You will be supported by a line manager, have a thorough induction into your role, and also have opportunities for supervision, training, and development review to support you in the work that you do.

Contract Details

Contract hours, full and part time can consist of the following shift patterns:

  • Weekdays - 7am – 10am, 3pm – 9pm
  • Weekends – 7am – 3pm + 3pm – 9pm

3 week rolling rota, one full weekend off in 3 - there is a need for flexibility around the working week to meet the needs of the service.

Please note, CYC do not have a sponsorship licence to sponsor individuals for visas to work in the UK, therefore we are unable to offer sponsorship for this role.

Additional Requirements

As this role is public facing, applicants will need to demonstrate, at interview, their competency to converse and provide advice and guidance to members of the public, in spoken English to CEFR level C2: Can express themselves spontaneously at length with a natural conversational flow, avoiding or backtracking around any difficulty so smoothly that the person with whom they are conversing is hardly aware of it.
