Support Worker - Complex Care and Mental Health

About the Role

At Stepping Stones Services, we are proud to deliver high-quality, outcome-focused support. We work closely with local authorities, healthcare professionals, and families to provide personalised care across supported living, mental health, and complex care services.

This role has a strong focus on supporting individuals with mental health needs and complex care requirements. You may be supporting individuals with Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder (EUPD), Non-Epileptic Attack Disorder, Psychosis, Schizophrenia, Bipolar Disorder, alongside other complex needs. Your role will involve:

  • Providing consistent, emotionally attuned support
  • Assisting individuals in managing distress
  • Encouraging emotional regulation and wellbeing in a safe, structured, and compassionate manner

You will operate in line with positive behaviour support, trauma-informed practice, and person-centred care plans to promote stability, independence, and quality of life.

About Us Stepping Stones Services is a trusted and compassionate provider supporting individuals with mental health needs, learning disabilities, autism, physical disabilities, and complex care requirements within their own homes.


Key Responsibilities

  • Providing Mental Health Support: Offer emotional support, reassurance, and structure to manage distress, anxiety, and emotional dysregulation.
  • Encouraging Independent Living: Assist with daily living skills, such as meal preparation, budgeting, personal care, and routines.
  • Medication Support: Administer medication according to care plans and protocols.
  • Positive Behaviour Support (PBS): Implement PBS strategies and risk management plans to maintain safety and promote wellbeing.
  • Maintaining a Safe Home Environment: Help individuals keep their homes organised, clean, and accessible.
  • Community Engagement: Encourage social activities, appointments, and hobbies.
  • Fostering Healthy Relationships: Support positive connections with family, professionals, and the wider community.
  • Out-of-Home Support: Accompany individuals to appointments, hospital visits, holidays, or other outings.
  • Person-Centred Care: Uphold individual choices, preferences, and dignity.
  • Reporting and Communication: Provide updates to the Service Manager and ensure compliance with care plans and risk assessments.

Role Details

  • Role Type: Full Time (with Part Time and Bank work available]
  • Hours: 16–48 hours per week
  • Shift Patterns: Days, Sleeps, and Waking Nights on a rolling rota (Monday–Sunday)
  • Location: Rotherham

Desired Skills & Qualifications

Aspiring candidates should demonstrate:

  • A caring, patient, and compassionate approach, particularly for individuals with mental health and complex care needs
  • Strong communication and emotional awareness skills
  • Experience in mental health or complex care (desirable)
  • Understanding of person-centred and trauma-informed care
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team
  • Flexibility to support individuals in and outside the home
  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health & Social Care (desirable)
  • Preference of a full UK driving licence
