Summary
We're looking for caring and enthusiastic Support Workers to join our supported living service in Ystrad Mynach, supporting a group of active and social ladies with learning disabilities. If you're passionate about making a difference and bringing positivity to others, this could be the perfect role for you. We have a permanent 33-hour opportunity available, currently focused on waking night shifts to support the needs of an individual living within the service. As support requirements can change, applicants should be flexible and willing to work a range of shifts, including days, evenings, sleep-ins and waking nights. This varied role offers the opportunity to provide meaningful support and build positive relationships with the people we support across all aspects of their daily lives.
Please note: Due to the specific needs of the individuals who live at this service, this role is open to female applicants only. As supporting the ladies to attend activities and appointments is a key part of the role, a full UK manual driving licence is essential. Drivers will be required to use mobility vehicles to support individuals in accessing their communities and maintaining their active lifestyles.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

About The Role
This welcoming bungalow, located in a quiet cul-de-sac in Ystrad Mynach, is home to four ladies with a range of support needs, including learning disabilities, autism and early-onset Alzheimer's.
Some ladies may also display behaviours that challenge, so we're looking for compassionate, patient and resilient people who can provide person-centred support.
This is a busy and rewarding service where the ladies enjoy leading active and fulfilling lives. They are passionate about getting out and about in their local community and regularly take part in activities such as swimming, Zumba, baking, arts and crafts, shopping trips and social groups.
They enjoy building relationships, trying new experiences and maintaining their independence.
Role
As a Support Worker, you'll play a key role in helping the ladies achieve their personal goals, maintain their wellbeing and continue enjoying the activities they love. No two days are the same, with support including:
- Supporting with personal care and medication
- Promoting independence with daily living skills
- Helping with meal planning and preparation
- Accompanying individuals to community activities and appointments
- Providing emotional support and encouragement
- Supporting with household tasks and maintaining a safe home environment
- Encouraging social interaction, hobbies and new experiences
Your patience, calm nature and ability to communicate in different ways to build relationships, will be essential and this is where your empathy and person-centred approach will make a real difference, ensuring the individuals feel understood, respected, and supported at all times.
