Job Summary
Are you passionate about making a meaningful difference in people’s lives? We are recruiting support workers to join our friendly team at Melton Short Breaks & Supported Living Services.
This role focuses on delivering personalised overnight short breaks (respite care) and supported living provision for up to 13 adults with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD), sensory impairments (e.g., deafness/dyslexia), and physical disabilities.
You’ll have the opportunity to develop in a supportive work environment with flexible hours and a generous Local Government Pension Scheme.
Job Details
- Salary: £25,995–£26,409 per annum (pro-rata for part-time)
- Working Hours: 25 hours per week, flexibly scheduled (7am–10pm, including weekends and bank holidays)
- Contract: Permanent
- Closing Date: 20th July 2026
- Interview Date: 28th July 2026
Important Notes:
- This role is open to female applicants only due to predominantly female participation in care roles.

About the Role
We’re seeking enthusiastic individuals who care about supporting people with learning disabilities, sensory needs, and physical disabilities to live independent, dignified lives. No formal care experience is required—just a compassionate commitment to our values.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide personalised day-to-day support, paying attention to choice and control while encouraging independence.
- Assist with physical care (eating, bathing, mobility) using specialist equipment while ensuring health and safety.
- Engage with diverse communication methods (e.g., Makaton, sign language, picture boards).
- Maintain accurate evidence-based records while respecting confidentiality.
- Work within Leicestershire County Council’s Code of Conduct and Skills for Care guidance.
- Flexible & responsive—balancing independent work with teamwork, pronto to adapt to crises.

About You

✔ Commitment to person-centred care—ensuring every individual’s rights and needs are respected. Prioritise anti-discriminatory policies and safeguarding protocols. ✔ Manual handling & equipment expertise—training in moving/assisting service users will be provided. ✔ Strong communication—able to connect with complex communication needs and ca multiculturalism. ✔ Confidence and adaptability—organise time effectively, stay calm under pressure, and work outside office hours (e.g., training, meetings). ✔ Resilience and a team mindset—adapt to a 24/7 service, accommodating unexpected challenges.
✔ Values alignment—refer to Leicestershire County Council’s Organisational Values. You’re assessed on these during the selection process.
Preferred Attributes
- Experience with home-based health and social care (not strictly essential).
- Basic proficiency in IT & record-keeping (considered alongside willingness to learn).
- Familiarity with panic alarms,/adaptive technologies.
