Support Worker (Short Breaks & Supported Living Services)

Organisation: Leicestershire County Council

Work Location: Melton Short Breaks & Supported Living Services, Victor Avenue, Melton Mowbray, LE13 0GG

Salary: £25,995 - £26,409 per annum (pro rata for part-time) (pay award pending)

Working Hours: 24 hours per week Must be able to work flexibly in a service rota, covering weekends, bank holidays, and 7AM to 10PM shifts.

Contract Type: Permanent

Closing Date: 20th July 2026 Interview Date: 28th July 2026

About the Role

We seek passionate support workers to join our Melton Short Breaks & Supported Living Services team. Our personalised overnight respite service and supported living provision for 13 adults with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD), sensory impairments, and physical disabilities require compassionate, dedicated individuals.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Delivering high-quality person-centred care for adults with learning differences.
  • Assisting with daily support and personal care while promoting independence and choice.
  • Attending mandatory training (in work-time) while benefiting from mentorship.

About You

This role is open to all applicants—formal care experience is not mandatory. However, you must:

Key Skills & Attributes:

  • Commitment to delivering independent, anti-discriminatory, and regulated care.
    • Must apply Adult Safeguarding and Valuing People Now principles.
  • Proficiency in using moving/handling equipment while supporting complex needs.
    • Willingness to attend appropriate training.
  • Strong communication skills (e.g., Makaton, picture boards, sign language).
  • Effective organisation, workload management, and pressure resilience.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, respond to crises.
  • Clear IT and record-keeping capabilities.
  • Flexibility to:
    • Rotate shifts covering 24/7 coverage.
    • Attend training/meetings outside core hours.
