Support Worker – Psychosocial Interventions (Prison Service) – Southwest Prisons Service

We are currently recruiting a Support Worker to work as part of the Southwest Prisons Service, delivering psychosocial interventions to service users across the South West.

Our ideal candidate will bring:

  • Skills and experience in assessing and engaging with service users
  • Ability to ensure they access the right intervention at the right time, tailored to individual needs

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in substance misuse issues looking to advance their career within a charity that supports both personal and professional development.

This role may include evenings, weekends, and bank holiday work.

Location: HMP Exeter

Hours: Full-time (37.5 hours per week) Contract: Permanent

Please note that at Change Grow Live:

  • Full-time roles consist of 37.5 hours per week (Part-time salaries will be pro-rata based on hours).

About the Role

  • Support service users from point of entry throughout their treatment/recovery journey
  • Deliver psychosocial interventions as part of the Drug and Alcohol Recovery Service within the prison estate
  • Collaborate closely with other healthcare providers as part of an Integrated Health and Wellbeing Model
  • Advocate on behalf of service users who are unwilling or unable to engage with treatment
  • Proactively follow up with service users who miss appointments to encourage engagement
  • Contribute to risk management processes, including prison ACCT processes as required
  • Work with service users to promote social (re)integration, empowering them to live meaningful, purposeful lives through recovery, resilience, peer support, and self-determination

About You

Essential Requirements

  • Strong understanding of substance misuse issues, preferably with experience in similar roles within prisons or criminal justice systems
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (both verbal and written), alongside proficient IT skills
  • Highly proactive, with ability to work independently, demonstrating strong time management and prioritisation skills
  • Good knowledge of mental health interventions, services, and best practices
  • Ability to supportively collaborate with a variety of professionals, agencies, and internal/external stakeholders
  • Understanding of managing change effectively while focusing on the needs of service users
  • Compliance with information governance processes and adherence to all necessary safeguarding guidelines
  • Willingness to seek out learning opportunities to develop and broaden professional knowledge and skills, whilst also facilitating the growth of others
  • Mobility to travel between prison sites
