About the Role: Support Worker
We are seeking dedicated, compassionate, and enthusiastic Support Workers for our supported living services. You will assist adults with autism and learning disabilities living in either:
- Their own flats
- Shared accommodation
This hands-on position includes supporting clients with:
- Daily life skills development
- Community access
- Personal care
- Well-being
No prior professional care experience is required. We provide training (including in Positive Behaviour Support, or PBS), and personal experience or a strong desire to support others is equally valued.
This role requires evenings, weekends, and bank holidays on a rota basis.
Key Responsibilities
Supporting People We Serve
- Deliver high-quality personalised support aligned with each individual’s support plans and risk assessments.
- Help clients access community opportunities, develop independence, and achieve personal goals.
- Assist with daily living activities:
- Personal care
- Meal preparation
- Budgeting
- Household tasks.
- Act as a keyworker, building trusted relationships and ensuring structured communication.
- Encourage client participation in care planning, recruitment, and feedback.
- Uphold dignity, respect, and choice in every interaction.
Financial & Contractual Accountability
- Follow financial policies, including proper use of petty cash.
- Ensure value for money across all spending.
- Support clients in financial responsibility, including detecting and reporting financial abuse.
- Accurately record work hours and inform managers of any unPlanned absences.
- Drive client involvement in service development.
- Maintain up-to-date skills through professional development.

Ensuring Quality Service Delivery
- Maintain safe, person-centred support, including lone working if required.
- Align with support plans, risk assessments, and organisational policies.
- Monitor and report changes in clients’ needs or well-being.
- Complete thorough and accurate records.
- Escalate concerns, risks, or care gaps as needed.
- Provide direct and indirect care across multiple services when needed.
- Offer flexible availability, including evenings/weekends.
Positive Behaviour Support
- Embed a proactive PBS framework that prioritises quality of life, inclusion, and reduced distress.
- Use supportive strategies for individuals exhibiting concerning behaviours.
- Collaborate with clients, families, and professionals in PBS implementation.
- Engage in reflective practice and continuous training for consistent improvement.
Teamwork & Safeguarding
- Collaborate with colleagues, families, and professionals to deliver joined-up care.
- Assist with onboarding new team members (apprentices, volunteers).
- Contribute to team meetings and service innovations.
- Strict adherence to safeguarding procedures.
- Promote health, safety, and well-being, including reporting hazards promptly.
- Represent Outward’s values in all interactions.

Requirements & Qualifications
Essential
- Right to work in the UK (UK visa sponsorship is not provided).
- Passion for supporting vulnerable adults to live independently.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to build trusted relationships with clients.
- Willingness to assist with personal care.
- Resilience, emotional maturity, and ability to engage with challenging behaviours.
- Competent written and IT skills for accurate record-keeping.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and bank holidays.
- Commitment to safeguarding, adherence to support plans, and continuous training.
- Access to a smartphone capable of receiving text messages and installing authentication apps.
- Values alignment with Outward’s mission.

Desirable
- Experience supporting adults with learning disabilities, autism, or complex needs (including unpaid or personal experience).
- Familiarity with Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) or a willingness to learn.
- NVQ Level 2/3 in Health & Social Care.
- Understanding of person-centred planning.
Safeguarding Disclosure
As mandated by regulations protecting vulnerable adults, an Enhanced DBS Check will be conducted for shortlisted candidates. Outward will fully subsidise this process.
