Support Worker – Care & Social Support (Blackwood, Wales)
About the Role
We’re hiring caring and committed Support Workers to join our friendly, long-standing team. You’ll provide personalised support to four individuals with learning and physical disabilities and complex needs in a purpose-built bungalow in Blackwood.
The Role in Focus
The home is liveable, supportive, and culturally rich—the kitchen table is its heart, a place for:
- Meal preparation & cooking support
- Art, craft, and creative activities
- Peer friendships and social bonds
- Encouraging independence in daily choices
This role offers varied, meaningful tasks, blending: ✔ Active support (e.g., personal care, community outings, skill development) ✔ Reassuring presence (e.g., emotional safety, encouragement of autonomy)
Key Responsibilities
- Daily care & autonomy: Support with personal care, medication (training provided), and daily routines (e.g., dressing, mobility assistance).
- Dependency mechanisms: Include safe use of hoists where required.
- Nutrition & co-working: Assist or encourage cooking from scratch, grocery planning, and meal diversity.
- Community integration: Organise trips to cinemas, local activities, hair stylists, and cafés—helping residents engage flexibly.
- Compassionate communication: Ensure relationships are built through patience, empathy, and tailored approach (e.g., using SALT guidance).
- Records & legal compliance: Maintain accurate digital documentation using systems like Nourish.
- MINDING ATTENTIONS: As a 24/7 service role, some shifts sleep-in (8 hrs, with pay).

Essential:
- Valid UK manual driving licence—driving specialist mobility vehicles is core support.
- Strong values of compassion, reliability, and adaptability.
Desired (Not Mandatory):
- Experience working with individuals with physical or learning disabilities.
- Experience with medication administration (training provided).

Compensation & Economic Rewards
- Base salary: £25,877 (equivalent to £13.45/hr)
- **Sleep-in shifts (approx. 1x-week): £62.64 per 8-hour slot.
- Night enhancer rate: +20% from 11 PM to 7 AM.
- Full-fee reimbursements: DHPs (Dementia & Hoist Care Checks).
- Pension support:
- DC Scheme: Up to 10% matched employer contribution.
- *DB Scheme (alternative): 1/80th of final salary per year of service.
