Position Overview
We are seeking a reliable and motivated Surfacing Operative to join our surfacing team.
As part of a skilled crew, your role will involve:
- Supporting the delivery of road surfacing and highway maintenance projects
- Working outdoors, on-site, and as part of a team to ensure high-quality and safe asphalt delivery
- Preparing for nightshift work as required
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with laying, raking, levelling, and finishing of asphalt materials
- Support operation of surfacing plant, tools, and equipment
- Perform site preparation and general labouring duties pre-, during, and post-surfacing
- Collaborate closely with the Foreperson and surfacing squad to deliver projects efficiently and safely
- Conduct routine checks and basic maintenance of plant, equipment, and PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)
- Adhere strictly to site instructions, safe systems of work, and company procedures
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment
- Report safety concerns, incidents, defects, or near misses promptly
- Work flexibly across sites and shifts, including night work

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Essential
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
- Positive, learning-oriented attitude
- Commitment to safe working practices and compliance
- Flexibility in working hours and site locations
Desirable
- CSCS card
- Full UK driving licence
- Previous experience in surfacing, construction, highways, or related environments
