Role Description
The Surfacing / Tarmac Operative is a full-time, on-site role based in Pyle, responsible for the collection, preparation, and laying of asphalt and other surfacing materials on roads, footpaths, and similar areas.

Key Responsibilities
- Driving a 7.5t tipper
- Operating rollers and hand-laying tarmac
- Compacting surfaces as required
- Following instructions from site supervisors
- Adhering to health and safety procedures
- Completing work to specified quality and time standards
The role involves:
- Working outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Cooperating with other team members on site
- Maintaining tools, equipment, and work areas in safe working order
Overtime and flexible hours may be required to meet project deadlines.
Qualifications & Experience
Experience in surfacing or tarmac works, including:
- Groundwork preparation
- Hand-laying and compaction of asphalt or similar materials
Ability to operate relevant plant and machinery, such as:
- Rollers, pavers, and compaction equipment

CPCS/NPORS or equivalent plant tickets are an advantage.
Key Requirements
- Strong understanding of site health and safety requirements, including:
- Safe manual handling
- Working around live plant and traffic
- Reliable team-working skills, good communication on site, and the ability to:
- Follow instructions
- Work to project specifications
- Basic numeracy and literacy for:
- Reading plans, measurements, and job documentation
- Attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
- Clean & valid UK driving licence, with the ability to drive 7.5t vehicles
- Previous experience in:
- Civil engineering
- Highways
- Construction environments (preferred, but not essential)
Relevant industry or vocational qualifications (e.g., NVQ or equivalent in:
- Surfacing
- Highways Maintenance
- Construction Operations) are an advantage.
