Role Description: Surfacing / Tarmac Operative (Pyle)

Job Summary

Full-time, on-site role based in Pyle. Responsible for the collection, preparation, and laying of asphalt and other surfacing materials on roads, footpaths, and similar areas.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive 7.5t tipper and operate rollers, carrying out hand-laying of tarmac and surface compaction.
  • Follow instructions from site supervisors and adhere to health and safety procedures.
  • Complete work to strict quality and time standards.
  • Work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Collaborate effectively with other team members on site.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in good working order.
  • Overtime and flexible hours may be required to meet project deadlines.

Indposure to:

  • Surfacing work, road construction, and highway maintenance environments.

Requirements

Experience & Technical Skills

  • Experience in surfacing or tarmac works, including:
    • Groundwork preparation
    • Hand-laying of asphalt
    • Compaction of surfaces
  • Ability to operate:
    • Rolers, pavers and compaction machinery (e.g., CPCS/NPORS holders have an advantage)
  • Strong understanding of site health and safety, including:
    • Safe manual handling
    • Working around live plant and traffic
  • Basic numeracy and literacy for reading plans, specifications, and measurements.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to high-quality workmanship.

Licences & Certifications

  • Valid UK driving licence (required).
  • Ability to drive 7.5t vehicles.
  • CPCS/NPORS or equivalent plant tickets preferred.

Personal Attributes

  • Reliable team-worker with strong communication skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work to project specifications.
  • Previous experience in civil engineering, highways, or construction environments is useful.

Bonus Qualifications

  • NVQ or equivalent in:
    • Surfacing
    • Highway Maintenance
    • Construction Operations (preferred but not mandatory).
