Role Description: Surfacing / Tarmac Operative (Pyle)
Job Summary
Full-time, on-site role based in Pyle. Responsible for the collection, preparation, and laying of asphalt and other surfacing materials on roads, footpaths, and similar areas.

Key Responsibilities
- Drive 7.5t tipper and operate rollers, carrying out hand-laying of tarmac and surface compaction.
- Follow instructions from site supervisors and adhere to health and safety procedures.
- Complete work to strict quality and time standards.
- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Collaborate effectively with other team members on site.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in good working order.
- Overtime and flexible hours may be required to meet project deadlines.
Indposure to:
- Surfacing work, road construction, and highway maintenance environments.
Requirements
Experience & Technical Skills
- Experience in surfacing or tarmac works, including:
- Groundwork preparation
- Hand-laying of asphalt
- Compaction of surfaces
- Ability to operate:
- Rolers, pavers and compaction machinery (e.g., CPCS/NPORS holders have an advantage)
- Strong understanding of site health and safety, including:
- Safe manual handling
- Working around live plant and traffic
- Basic numeracy and literacy for reading plans, specifications, and measurements.
- Attention to detail and commitment to high-quality workmanship.

Licences & Certifications
- Valid UK driving licence (required).
- Ability to drive 7.5t vehicles.
- CPCS/NPORS or equivalent plant tickets preferred.
Personal Attributes
- Reliable team-worker with strong communication skills.
- Ability to follow instructions and work to project specifications.
- Previous experience in civil engineering, highways, or construction environments is useful.
Bonus Qualifications
- NVQ or equivalent in:
- Surfacing
- Highway Maintenance
- Construction Operations (preferred but not mandatory).
