Surgical Care Practitioner in Cardiothoracic Surgery
Location: Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
We are seeking a highly skilled and qualified Surgical Care Practitioner (SCP) in Cardiothoracic Surgery with proven experience in:
- Endoscopic vein harvesting
- Endoscopic radial artery harvesting
The successful candidate will play a key role in our specialist surgical team, supporting complex cardiothoracic procedures and delivering high-quality patient care across the entire surgical pathway, including:
- Pre-operative assessment
- Intra-operative practice
- Post-operative management
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate advanced clinical expertise and analyse complex patient needs with strong professional judgment
- Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team
- Supervise and develop trainee Surgical Care Practitioners
- Contribute to service improvement through:
- Education & training
- Research & clinical audit
- Leadership in surgical care optimisation
- Provide preoperative assessments, including:
- Thorough evaluation of conduit harvesting sites
- Clinical assessment incorporating patient medical history
- Deliver clear communication, information, and reassurance to patients and carers
- Arrange and interpret:
- Angiograms
- Chest X-rays
- ECGs
- Blood tests
- Educate patients and carers with accurate, practical information
- Support informed decision-making and healthy lifestyle choices
