Job Overview

6-Month Fixed Term / Secondment Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Surgical Services Management Team for a Surgical Support Coordinator on a 6-month fixed term or secondment basis.

The post holder will provide high-quality administrative and clerical support to ensure efficient patient pathway management from referral to treatment and discharge. Working closely with Coordinators and clinical teams, the role will support integrated patient pathways, helping to ensure patients are treated in the right place, at the right time.

The successful candidate will join a supportive team covering a range of specialties including Bariatric, Endoscopy, Gastroenterology, Colorectal, and Upper GI. The role includes cross-cover and active participation in team working and service improvement.

This is an excellent opportunity to develop skills, gain valuable NHS experience, and contribute to service delivery within a fast-paced acute setting.

We are looking for a motivated, organised individual with strong communication skills. Previous experience in an acute hospital setting is desirable.

Main duties of the job

  • Post holder will be able to demonstrate advanced communication and organisational skills, be able to use their own initiative and show problem solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a passion for patient care is essential.
  • Ensuring efficient and effective use of the theatre and endoscopy sessions.
  • Play a central role within this service and work in close liaison with NHS colleagues, patients, and general public.
  • To manage waiting lists in accordance with the Patient Access Policy and to achieve government and JAG waiting time standards.
  • To be responsible for the addition and removal from waiting list and recording of all relevant patient information to and from the waiting list. This may be in response to a clinician, patient, or management request.
  • Monitor the Patient Target List (PTL) on a daily basis to ensure government access standards are not breached and to escalate any potential breaches and take appropriate action to resolve capacity issues and escalate any issues to the Assistant Operations Manager
  • Managing waiting lists for patients on the cancer pathway who require endoscopy procedure and/or further surveillance appointments.
