About the Role
We are recruiting a motivated and commercially minded Surveyor to join our Rating team. The ideal candidate will provide expert advice on business rates for a diverse portfolio of commercial properties, helping clients:
- Minimise liabilities
- Manage risk
- Navigate the UK rating system
This role offers ** exposure to sectors including office, industrial, retail, leisure, logistics, and mixed-use developments**. You will work with both occupiers and investors.
Key Responsibilities
Core Duties:
- Manage rating instructions across multiple properties and sectors.
- Prepare, review, and submit business rates appeals and proposals.
- Analyse rental data, valuation trends, and market evidence to support rating assessments.
- Conduct property inspections and gather key valuation information.
- Negotiate with the Valuation Office Agency (VOA) for favourable rating outcomes.
- Advise clients on liability, reliefs, exemptions, and mitigation strategies.
- Support clients through the Check, Challenge, Appeal (CCA) process.
- Produce reports, valuations, and client presentations.
- Build and nurture strong client relationships via proactive communication and service excellence.
- Collaborate with valuation, agency, lease advisory, and property management teams.
- Monitor legislative and case law changes affecting business rates.
- Assist with business development, including winning new instructions.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience
Essential:
- Degree in Real Estate, Estate Management, Surveying, or a related field.
- Progressing towards or qualified as a Chartered Surveyor (MRICS) or equivalent relevant experience.
- Experience in commercial property rating or valuation.
- Strong analytical and numerical skills.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication.
- Ability to interpret market evidence and valuation data.
- High organisational skills with multitasking capabilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (specifically Excel).
Desirable:
- MRICS qualification.
- Experience negotiating rating appeals with the VOA.
- Knowledge of the CCA process.
- Familiarity with property databases and rating software.
- Existing client relationships or business development experience.
