Job Description
The Role:
The Sustainability Analyst will strengthen the organisation’s environmental reporting and data capabilities across carbon, product sustainability, waste, supply chain compliance and regulatory compliance. This role supports the annual carbon audit, builds and maintains databases, and leads data collection and analysis for key sustainability-linked reporting requirements, including EPR, Plastic Packaging Tax, WEEE and Batteries. The role is responsible for improving data quality, streamlining processes, and supporting the organisation’s readiness for evolving disclosure standards.
Key Responsibilities
Environmental Data Management
- Develop, maintain, and continually enhance databases for:
- Carbon reporting (Scopes 1, 2, 3)
- Product sustainability attributes and material composition
- Waste and recycling data
- Packaging, plastics, WEEE and batteries datasets required for regulatory submissions
- Apply robust data quality checks, version control, and documentation standards.
Carbon Reporting & Annual Audit
- Support the annual carbon audit from planning through to assurance, including:
- Collating activity data from sites, stores, logistics, brands, and suppliers
- Completing emissions calculations using approved factors
- Preparing audit-ready documentation and supporting external assurance
- Identify improvement opportunities to simplify and strengthen the carbon reporting process.
- Use data to advise suggested pathways to reduce carbon footprint and improve methodologies.
Regulatory Sustainability Reporting (EPR, PPT, WEEE & Batteries)
- Lead data collection, preparation and validation for:
- Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) submissions (UK and EU markets)
- Plastic Packaging Tax (PPT) reporting
- WEEE (Waste Electrical & Electronic Equipment) and Battery obligations
- Ensure accurate material breakdowns, product classification, weights, formats and supplier data are available to meet reporting requirements.
- Maintain audit trails and improve reporting efficiency over time.
- Work collaboratively with Packaging, Product, Finance, and Supply Chain teams to close data gaps and clarify responsibilities.

Waste & Recycling Performance
- Maintain waste and recycling datasets across sites, distribution centres and retail operations.
- Analyse trends and support identification of waste reduction or recycling improvement opportunities.
Product Sustainability Data
- Support the development of product-level datasets (e.g., composition, certifications, recyclability, packaging formats).
- Improve completeness and consistency of data.
- Drive the development of our PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) system.
- Assist with data preparation for material certifications as well as future requirements such as Digital Product Passports (DPP) and ecodesign disclosures.
Reporting, Analysis & Insight
- Produce dashboards, reports, and analytical summaries covering:
- Carbon performance
- Waste and recycling metrics
- Packaging and EPR performance
- WEEE & battery obligations
- Product material and sourcing insights
- Provide insight that informs strategy, operational improvements, and risk management.
- Support broader ESG reporting (e.g., UK SRS, CSRD, SECR) by supplying validated environmental data.
Process Improvement & Governance
- Lead initiatives to streamline data collection, with a focus on reducing manual effort and improving reliability.
- Develop training materials and guidance for data owners and internal stakeholders.
- Support implementation of automation or system enhancements where appropriate.
- Management of compliance administration accounts
Qualifications
What We’re Looking For
- Previous experience using SQL and Power BI
- Comfortable working with internal teams and stakeholders
- Self-motivated and able to manage work independently
- Strong communication skills
- Able to explain insights and recommendations clearly to non-technical audiences
- An interest in sustainability and making a difference
