About the role

We have a brand-new opportunity for a Sustainability Consultant focused in energy to join our team based in our Oxford office.

It’s an exciting time to be part of our broader Sustainability group, which has a presence in every Hoare Lea office across the country.

Our Sustainability Group is an industry leader in its approach to sustainable design, construction, and building operation. Focused on achieving ever greater standards of environmental sustainability, the Group thrives on its dynamic, innovative, and ambitious working culture.

In this key and varied role, you can expect to:

  • Support the development of energy strategies with clients to drive sustainability innovation across a range of developments.
  • Undertake modelling and analysis, which may include:
    • Building performance simulation
    • Operational energy use
    • Energy generation
    • Overheating assessments
    • Embodied carbon of materials
    • Circular economy opportunities
  • Assist in the delivery of environmental assessments such as BREEAM, WELL, HQM and similar, from early design stages through to completion.
  • Support the development of holistic sustainability strategies.
  • Support the training and development of graduate members of the team.
  • Contribute to the development of junior team members.
  • Work with other members of the firm on research and development initiatives to help us stay at the cutting edge of our industry.
  • Contribute to Hoare Lea’s wider industry-facing work, including research studies and authorship of guidance, where relevant.

About you

You are likely to have some knowledge and competence in a selection of the following fields:

  • Knowledge of building regulations, overheating, TM54, NABERS, and energy modelling using IES
  • Experience with energy strategies, in-use assessments, and environmental/wellbeing certifications such as BREEAM, HQM, WELL, and Fitwel
  • Familiarity with sustainability planning documents, including statements, whole life carbon reports, and circular economy statements
  • Experience with whole life carbon assessments, net zero carbon strategies, and embodied carbon calculations
  • A background in the built environment, ideally within a sustainability or engineering consultancy
  • A relevant degree, strong communication skills, and a collaborative approach
  • A genuine passion for sustainability
