Senior Sustainability Manager – Ethical Trade, Nature & Social Value

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to help deliver and shape apetito’s sustainability agenda, with a focus on ethical trade, nature, and social value. Working across the business and with suppliers, you will help turn strategy into practical action and measurable impact.

apetito aims to be one of the UK’s leading companies in ethics and sustainability, and this role has a key responsibility in helping deliver that vision. By creating real competitive advantage—winning over customers to fuel business growth—we seek an individual with the passion, drive, and commitment to share and deliver on this vision.

Our Progress So Far

  • Won the 2024 King’s Awards for Enterprise – Sustainable Development
  • One of the UK’s strongest Net Zero commitments, independently validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)
  • First business to publish short-term climate targets and refused to greenwash
  • Pioneered closed-loop packaging recycling for CPET ready meal trays, recycling over 45 million trays and influencing UK Government packaging policy
  • Currently building Kitchen West, a £100m, ultra-sustainable food production facility, requiring this role to embed circularity and water efficiency—with learnings applied across Kitchen East

Key Responsibilities

  • Ethical Trade
    • Lead apetito’s Ethical Trade programme, ensuring alignment with ETI Base Code and Modern Slavery requirements
    • Deliver the Ethical Trade Action Plan, tracking progress and driving continuous improvement
    • Manage key external memberships and relationships (e.g., Ethical Trading Initiative, Food Network for Ethical Trade)
    • Oversee supplier due diligence processes, including SEDEX data management, risk assessments, and corrective action follow-up
    • Support Modern Slavery risk mapping, quarterly reporting and the anual statement.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
