Group Sustainability Manager

Location: Manchester, UK Contract Type: Hybrid working (2 days from home)

A leading commercial property business is seeking a Group Sustainability Manager to develop and implement their sustainability strategy, ESG reporting, and decarbonisation initiatives, based at their Manchester office.


About the Role

Reporting directly into the Director, this strategic role will focus on:

  • Developing and delivering a robust sustainability & ESG strategy
  • Driving ESG reporting and KPI performance, including carbon emissions, energy usage, and social impact tracking
  • Leading external ESG communications, stakeholder engagement, and partnerships
  • Collaborating across departments to embed sustainability best practices

The ideal candidate will act as a trusted advisor to leadership, investors, and internal teams while fostering a culture of continual improvement.


Responsibilities

The role requires a strong mix of strategic and operational leadership, including:

  • Strategic planning – Define, and implement a comprehensive sustainability & ESG strategy
  • Reporting & compliance – Prepare internal and external ESG reports aligned with industry standards (e.g., carbon emissions, energy usage, social value tracking)
  • Stakeholder management – Engage with leadership, investors, and across деancements to drive alignment and progress
  • Ash Community & partnerships – Lead social impact campaigns, charitable initiatives, and external engagement (e.g., partnerships, events)
  • Collaboration – Work closely with marketing, finance, and operational teams to embed sustainability as a core business priority

Requirements

Essential

  • Proven experience in a similar role, ideally within the property, built environment, or real estate sector
  • Strong background in sustainability strategy formulation, embedding frameworks, and driving measurable improvement
  • Exceptional stakeholder management and cross-functional collaboration skills
  • Skilled in data analysis, performance tracking, and reporting (ESG metrics, carbon footprint, etc.)
  • Experience with Social Value / Social Impact, Community Engagement, and / or Health & Wellbeing projects
  • Passion for sustainability, with a commitment to expanding knowledge in the sector

Desirable

  • Hands-on experience with ESG reporting platforms (e.g., REEB, GRESB)
  • Familiarity with biodiversity assessments and green travel initiatives
  • IEMA or equivalent sustainability qualification
