Sustainability & Packaging Analyst
As a Sustainability & Packaging Analyst for a beauty brand, you will play a crucial role in shaping the company’s sustainability agenda by analysing, tracking, and optimising packaging materials and packaging waste across the product portfolio. You will ensure compliance with packaging-related legislation, drive recyclability and waste-reduction initiatives, and support innovation in sustainable beauty packaging. Your insights will help reduce environmental impact while protecting the brand’s premium aesthetic and customer experience.
What you'll do:
Data Analysis & Sustainability Insights
- Alongside our global partner Valpak, analyse packaging compositions (plastics, glass, aluminium, paperboard, pumps, droppers, caps, and labels) to assess recyclability, waste impact, and environmental performance.
- Track packaging waste generated in production, fulfilment, and returns processes.
- Build reporting tools and dashboards to communicate sustainability metrics (e.g., PCR content, recyclability scores, EPR obligations).
- Maintain accurate datasets to support claims such as “recyclable,” “refillable,” or “reduced packaging.”
- Track material compositions for Tools & Accessories assortment with regards to material safety standards and restricted substance lists in key markets.
Regulatory Compliance
- Support compliance with packaging-waste regulations across multiple markets (e.g., UK EPR, EU Packaging & Packaging Waste Regulation, US state-level laws).
- Prepare and submit data for packaging-related reporting schemes.
- Liaise with suppliers to obtain validated packaging specifications (wall thickness, materials, resin codes, coatings, inks, recyclability testing).
- Ensure packaging claims meet regulatory standards and avoid greenwashing risks.
- Confirm global compliance in packaging labelling claims, icons and information upon artwork (Tri-man, Mobius Loop, OPRL, material and % recycled content etc.)
- Ensure all non-formulated products (Tools & Accessories) comply with global chemical and safety regulations, including REACH (EU/UK), California Prop 65, and heavy metal limits.
- Liaise with our externally testing institutes to obtain the correct testing for global compliance.
- Coordinate with suppliers to obtain compliance documentation for the tools & accessories assortment, including Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for relevant materials and certificates of analysis.

Administrative Data Support
- Create, submit reports and update trackers on SKU data ahead of launches, internally and externally, in collaboration with Regulatory Compliance Manager and Master Data (packaging material, dimensions, recyclability and composition etc.)
- Support in maintaining our Global Product Registration Tracker for distributors with uploading PIFs, cert and packaging docs ahead of SKU launch and collect missing data for specific request together with Regulatory Compliance Manager.
Packaging Optimisation & Innovation
- Assess opportunities to reduce packaging waste while maintaining brand look and feel.
- Support the development of refill systems, lightweight formats, mono-material packaging, and increased use of post-consumer recycled (PCR) materials.
- Analyse the environmental impact of packaging changes through life-cycle-thinking principles.
- Collaborate with NPD, packaging engineers, and marketing teams to integrate sustainability into early design stages.
- Explore sustainable material alternatives for all our tools & accessories to stay compliance and competitive.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with creative, marketing, and product development teams to ensure sustainability goals align with brand aesthetics.
- Work with procurement and suppliers to identify improved, certified, or innovative sustainable materials.
- Support operations and warehouse teams with packaging-waste segregation and efficient recycling processes.
- Engage with sustainability teams on broader ESG reporting and initiatives.

What you'll have:
- Understanding of beauty packaging formats—including jars, bottles, tubes, pumps, airless systems, compacts, and sampling materials.
- Expertise in recyclability standards, material science, and extended producer responsibility frameworks.
- Strong data-management and analysis skills (Excel, Power BI, or similar tools).
- High attention to detail with strong data accuracy.
- Ability to balance sustainability improvements with brand aesthetics and cost considerations.
- Strong communication skills to influence stakeholders and present clear recommendations.
- Organised, proactive, and able to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced beauty environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Packaging Engineering, Supply Chain, or similar.
- Experience in beauty, personal care, FMCG, or packaging-focused sustainability roles.
- Familiarity with beauty-specific packaging trends (refillable systems, luxury-look recyclable materials, PCR integration).
- Experience working with suppliers, manufacturers, or packaging development teams.
