Sustainability Programmes Manager

Are you ready to turn sustainability ambition into measurable change?

The University of Salford is looking for a Sustainability Programmes Manager to lead a portfolio of high-impact programmes that will help us deliver our Sustainability Strategy and Net Zero Carbon Plan. You’ll play a central role in embedding sustainability across university life, working on priority areas including responsible procurement, sustainability communications and engagement, and sustainability reporting, benchmarking and performance.

This is a varied and influential role where you’ll translate strategy into practical plans, use data to improve performance, and work with colleagues, students, suppliers and partners to create positive environmental and social impact. We’re looking for someone with experience of leading complex programmes or projects, strong knowledge of environmental sustainability, and the ability to communicate, influence and work across organisational boundaries.

Key responsibilities

You’ll lead and support delivery across a range of sustainability programmes, including:

  • Developing programme plans, governance, milestones and performance measures.
  • Monitoring and reporting progress to senior leaders and university governance groups.
  • Leading sustainability data collection, analysis and reporting, including Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions.
  • Working with Procurement colleagues to embed social value, environmental criteria and carbon reduction into procurement activity.
  • Leading inclusive communications and engagement activity that inspires staff, students and communities to take positive action.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
