Job Summary
Global Design & Construction's dedicated sustainability team is accountable for the development and roll out of a suite of sustainability initiatives within our design and construction projects, focusing on delivering best in class facilities where sustainability is critically considered from project inception through to operation. All of our facilities, once operational, provide the opportunity to export substantial amounts of sustainably-generated low-grade heat to third party consumers.
This is a fantastic opportunity to make an impact in a high profile area of data center sustainability with the market-leading Equinix Heat Export Programme.
The Programme has yielded several project opportunities which now requires resource to help convert these opportunities into live projects and scale the Programme.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for accelerating and scaling heat export from our facilities across our global portfolio of data centers
- Establish and manage relationships with internal stakeholders including supporting the Sustainability Program Office, Utilities & Energy team, Global Operations, Finance, Sales & customers, Investor & Analyst Relations and Marketing, Public Policy and Global Procurement team
- Establish and manage external relationships with third party potential partners including local authorities, government bodies, legislative working groups and utility infrastructure providers, suppliers and contractors
- With Communications and Public Policy teams, represent Equinix to end users of heat and publicly make the case for the colocation of data centre heat export with residential/commercial/industrial heat users
- Pro-actively initiate opportunities for heat export across our global markets, managing the technical and commercial appraisal and business case approval of proposed solutions.
- Support regional project teams in the execution of heat export projects as part of both new build and existing facilities
- Maintain and execute against the company’s global strategic sustainability goals
- Act as a subject matter expert for Global Design & Construction heat export queries internally and externally
- Manage the sourcing and purchasing process for our consultant base, including; receipt and evaluation of proposals; contract negotiation, award and administration of purchase orders, and preparation and management of consultant scope
- Work with internal teams and external sustainability consultant(s) to ensure full participation in key program elements, ensuring resulting data and information is sufficiently detailed, complete, accurate, and auditable for use for external reporting to agencies such as Global Reporting Initiative, Carbon Disclosure Project, RE100, LEED and Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark
- Ability to travel frequently internationally and domestically

Program and Portfolio Management
- Work with Programme Manager and a range of stakeholders/ functions to execute and oversee multiple simultaneous projects undertaken to meet the sustainability and energy efficiency goals of the company
- Create, control and enhance reporting activities, assisting in the creation and retention of accurate Global Design & Construction sustainability data, tracking issues and risks
- Proactively set up and facilitate program and project meetings
- Identifies and resolves program level issues with cross functional teams and programme manager
- Track project financials (cost and benefits, evaluating TCO, simple payback periods)
Stakeholder Management and Communication
- Builds relationships with company key stakeholders and business liaisons
- Regularly present to E-staff and other internal/external groups as necessary
- Communicates minor project/program scope, schedule, resource, and budget changes
- Create reporting mechanism and maintain a reporting cadence with support of programme manager
Project Methodologies and Tools
- Communicates Global Design & Construction Sustainability Charter framework and progress to all stakeholders
- Develop and maintain communication plans
- Develop and maintain execution templates: Experience with PM Tools such as MS Office Suite, MS Forms, Smartsheet, BI and SharePoint, Anaplan, Asite, Bim 360, Wordpress
Qualifications
- Proven years of experience preferred working in design and ideally construction with proven years of experience working in renewable energy/cleantech, district heating/cooling utility
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required. Master's degree preferred in an engineering discipline and Chartered Status with relevant institution
- Knowledgeable with financial modeling and analysis of utility contracts including understanding the risks of renewable energy/cleantech projects and options to mitigate risk
- Supplier / Utility / Energy Consultancy experience
- Possess excellent negotiation skills, evidenced by significant deliverables (e.g. cost savings, risk mitigation) resulting from completed negotiations
- Written and spoken fluency in English, additional languages preferred
- MS Office confident
- Communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, successfully interfacing with all internal and external stakeholders
- Ability to translate complex sustainability topics to a broad range of audiences within a matrixed organization
- Provide excellent analytical skills identifying all options available and defining best possible solutions
- Experience with stakeholder management
- Able to design dashboards, roadmaps & presentations
- Willingness to travel internationally to represent Equinix externally and to support project teams
- Experience of having worked independently across a diverse set of stakeholders in multiple time zones
- Awareness of existing or pending sustainability legislation relevant to data centers, real estate and technology companies (e.g. specifics around the EU Climate Neutral Data Centre Operator Pact, EU Green Deal, Sustainable Finance Taxonomy, Singapore Green Plan)
- Awareness of voluntary sustainability programs specific to energy, environment and emissions (e.g. CDP, GRI, The Greenhouse Gas Protocol, SASB, SBTs, TCFD etc.)
